I'd be very surprised if Flightcentre was selling Air Asia flights....however I did notice that Malyasia Airlines has some good deals for travel to the UK.

Actually I suppose this should have given it away:

Fares do not include checked luggage surcharges.

Surprised to see travel agents selling AA fares though as I said - these fares are available directly with AAX as far as I know, saw some last night so not sure what's in it for flightcentre commission wise...hotel bookings maybe.

I think FC, and travel agents in general, are in deep shit. For most travel needs they are no longer viable. It is cheaper and more convenient to book direct with the airline and FC, strangely, do not have an online option.

This is an attempt by FC to stay in the game.

I agree completely. The internet has made travel costs more transparent, and travel agents are suffering.

If it means i dont get to take a suitcase with me then i can cope with that -for people who need to find the cheapest route possible i reckon itsa good deal oh and there was no need or obligation to book accomodation in Kula Lumpar on route!

Last edited by daunted; Sep 16th 2009 at 11:28 pm. Reason: accomodation

As far as I know, Flightcentre can't sell you a through ticket for Aus - KL - London...Air Asia has no such policy as a flight connection. So if the 'connection' is short enough that you don't need any accommodation, then I'd be worried, because if you miss the onward flight you're stuffed. If it's longer...I'd take the accommodation, even for a few hours, the low cost terminal is not a fun place to spend several hours.

was ticket for the whole trip. connecting time was 6 hours which i reckon allows for delays and negates the need for accomodation

You wont be saying that once you've spent 5 hours sitting in Maccas with a few hundred other folks!

We're off to Thailand in the October school holidays. I went to FC to get a quote and it came out at just over $4k for the 3 of us for a week away (4 star hotel) with a stopover in Bangkok extra. I thought that was too much, so did my own research, and for flights on AA and Malaysian airlines, 7 nights in a 4-star hotel and a club room for a night at the Pan Pacific KLIA - just under $2k. Half the price for a better itinerary.

Why would anyone bother with FC or any other travel agent?
