"Care" packages from home
Hi everyone - my daughter and her family have now moved to Perth WA. She requested a few "english luxuries" which I duly sent via a very expensive UK parcel delivery service.
(a) Any tips about the best carrier gratefully received
(b) most importantly - can I send chocolate and crisps (stating the contents clearly on the customs form)
(c) Oh - musnt forget good old Marmite
(d) Does missing them all get easier
Thanking you in advance

If you send several small parcels by Royal Mail it can be cheaper than one large one

Pick one that has the service you want, from the carrier you want, at the price that doesn't make you wince too bad. For food, shipping by sea isn't going to be a go'er. Post Office might be cheaper, but I wouldn't bet on it.
You can get marmite (at great expense) in Coles. Still cheaper than shipping it.
My mother said she's seen more of me since I've moved here than she did when I was living in the UK - plus there's skype, etc. It's not like the 1960s when the world was large and to emigrate was to disconnected majorly - lots of scope to chat for zero cost now.

It might be cheaper to order them from a site here in Australia and ship to Perth, have a google, there are loads out there

Edit: when they have time for a good shop around they could be surprised what comes up at our big supermarket chains who often have a small UK section - I have often bought Penguins, Birds Custard powder, Marmite, Double Decker bars, Marmite, Irn Bru, dandelion and burdock, Mr Kipling, Instant Yorkshire pudding mix, Foxs Glacier mints, and did I mention Marmite?

I regularly buy from the Book Depository and they all arrive in individual parcels for that exact reason, even half a dozen Terry Pratchett novels came in six baggies .

You can buy Marmite here.
S.A. Shops, UK shops and some Coles supers, depending where you live.

I've got a jar of Marmite that a mate from Sydney gave me as a favour. I can't stand the stuff personally but I took it to be nice.

Looking forward to eating real Cadbury's dairy milk next weekend. Keep yer marmite- it is vile!!
On another note- can you take gluten free fruit and nut bars into Japan??(not chocolate, the health grain bars) I want to take a small stash in case I can't find GF stuff while walking about in Tokyo.

I really don't understand why people need to bring food from the UK or have it sent. There is food here. There is certainly marmite available all over the place and I cannot for the life of me understand why anyone can be so attached to a particular bar of chocolate or packet of crisps!
