Re: Bye bye Monorail
I always used it on my visits to Sydney.... Someone told me there is a better way to see central Sydney on a hop on hop of bus though, is that true ?

Re: Bye bye Monorail
Aaawwwwww I loved going on the monorail on my visits to Sydney :(

Re: Bye bye Monorail
It is nice for a tourist to take quick trip but was totally useless as a transport system.
Couldn't be extended or integrated to any other transport hub. I much prefer the plans for an extended tram network, Sydney used to have more tram lines than Melbourne did! Next year the tram extension will be opening out towards Dulwich Hill way and then it will head down to Circular Quay and eventually back out the the eastern burbs. A proper tram network will be something many more people can utilise than a monorail tourist merry go round. Sad to see it go but is the right decision. |

Re: Bye bye Monorail
They are saying they won't replace it with a tram, they aren't sure what they will do but it won't be a tram!
Sounds like a typical thing tear something down but have nothing in place to replace it with :sneaky: |

Re: Bye bye Monorail
yes there is a tourist bus but its as unreliable as all get out or it used to be. Maybe they will make that better, I hope so

Re: Bye bye Monorail
The monorail will be dismantled not replaced, it's an ugly railtrack!. Theres a separate plan for trams nothing to do with the mono.
I'll take my last ride this weekend before it's gone 30 june. |

Re: Bye bye Monorail
I say hurray and good riddance! It didn't go anywhere sensible so useless for commuters and the ticket wasn't included in the multi tickets so it meant buying a seperate ticket every time. There was never anyone on it! Plus it cuts right across George St ruining the view down the street. I can't wait for it to go.

Re: Bye bye Monorail
Good bye ugly monorail. It will be amazing to have Trams running down George street again

Re: Bye bye Monorail
They should re-site the monorail and run it between Circular Key and Darling Harbour. It could run past the soon-to-be-built casino hotel and provide a very handy transport link for tourists and locals.

personally id say it taking forever and destroying many business`s into the bargain, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GPXEtjqp7hw that coupled with a "why southport to broadbeach route" to me it dosnt make a lot of sense, surly nerang, robina or varsity rail station link into surfers broadbeach would have been better or a link from coolangatta airport into surfers via one of the above would have made more sense, i just carnt see who could use this as say a route to work its going from one cbd to another via a mostly unpopulated route? for a good example of light rail in an inner city they should have looked at what was done in manchester and followed there lead, steve |
