Building your dream home
Help is required please regarding building our own home please
We have bought an old home to knock down and rebuild. We had hoped the process would be straight forward (apart from the council) but I am having severe difficulty convincing myself that we are doing the right thing.
All i want is to contract a reputable firm to build our home to our spec within budget and give me the keys!
We have spoken to plenty of project home builders and custom builders but am still to be convinced that our budget will not be blown. This is because they all want a provisional allowance to cover any extra work required and are quoting up to 40K for this! The other problem i have is that the houses are brick veneer - wooden frame. With Sydney prone to termites, how long will the house last? Also, do I go for the basic inclusions or upgrade to better finishes?
If any one can give me reassurance that i am not going to get ripped off and the house wont be eaten away, i d be grateful.
