Not sure if they will manage that (corruption and false accounting strikes again) but they have never pinned their long term hopes on the continuation of the west. They understand that its 'us or them' on oil - and they want it to be us.

Actually China's plan all along has been to develop a 300-400 million strong middle class that can support domestic industry, maybe not at 8-10% growth, but enough that the mob won't string the politburo from the nearest lamppost.
