Brisbane's traffic the most stressful in Australia

Re: Brisbane's traffic the most stressful in Australia
I just got back from a week in Melbourne and I can safely say Melbourne driving is a dream in comparison. Definitely less stressful. Can't talk for Sydney as I have never driven there. I would also rate Brisbane as more stressful than London too

Actually, depending exactly where you drive, Melbourne traffic has improved if anything. I find parts of the E bound CityLink better than 5 years ago.
When I first realised, I thought it was a one-off!

Yeah, even though I was completely reliant on the GPS as I find Melbourne roads, especially the inner city freeway links a nightmare to plan routes for, I think you can tell that the planning behind a lot of the road improvements is sound and they have done the due dilligence. I really don't get that feeling from the roads in Brisbane

Let's not forget here are massive civil projects ongoing throughout Brisbane. They are probably more responsible for present traffic chaos. For past problems look at the hold ups caused by the Clem 7 & the new Gateway Bridge, the major works on the Bruce highway[North] & all the work South of the Gateway.

If the f'kers could just learn to merge and keep a safe distance everything would be (relatively) fine ... The commute is part of the reason I am looking for work closer to home ... At least around London ppl are used to the volume of traffic ... The M25 is shit but at least it's predictable shit.

You ought to try driving in Canberra. It's excellent. Almost congestion free and wide open roads. Cycling is great here too. I rode into the city yesterday, took less than 15 mins and except for crossing over the odd road complete with pedestrian crossing, it was parkland just about the whole way

People who live southside might share my view that the roads are just plain dangerous. There seems to be a trend which bucks indication and reaching the suburban speed limit. It seems two lane roads are a whole new concept to some people too. Just the other day I was behind a motorist who rather than choose a particular lane, decided to drive in the middle of both lanes. This is surely the land of the stupid driver.

Brisbane's traffic the most stressful in Australia
BRISBANE traffic has been rated the most stressful in the country as a result of poor planning, aggressive drivers and an over-reliance on private cars.
An IBM study of 1556 drivers found 90 per cent of Brisbane motorists felt increasingly stressed by traffic compared with 81 per cent in Adelaide, 78 per cent in Melbourne and 74 per cent in Sydney.
...certainly agree about the aggresive drivers.
'Laid back' my arse!

I think most of the people on this forum are to blame for trying to drive from GC/SC to Brisbane every day

I find North Shore drivers the most polite despite having to suffer the Pacific Highway. The most aggressive in Sydney are going SW on the M5. I had a borcat try and run me off the road near the airport. Out west the utes and WRXs try and race each other.

Joburg is an absolute nightmare. All the main freeways are crazy 5-lane plus-es and chock full of traffic too. It's incredible how there aren't more accidents.

Oz seems really geared up for cycling. It's Fab.
Wifey cycles to work mostly. It's quicker than the bus or me dropping her there during school terms. On school hols it's quicker by car.

That's another cause of traffic stress all the cycle ways that have been installed in the last year or so
