Brisbane's traffic the most stressful in Australia

BRISBANE traffic has been rated the most stressful in the country as a result of poor planning, aggressive drivers and an over-reliance on private cars.

An IBM study of 1556 drivers found 90 per cent of Brisbane motorists felt increasingly stressed by traffic compared with 81 per cent in Adelaide, 78 per cent in Melbourne and 74 per cent in Sydney.

...certainly agree about the aggresive drivers.

Actually I can think of other reasons.

1. The greatest number of cigarette smoking, singlet wearing shitty Commodore owners leaning out of windows because the tatty self applied UV film has jammed it up. The one day they were sober in the last 10 years was to turn up the test.

2. Ute drivers who believe that because they wear Holden/Ford racing T-shirts at the weekend are practicing for competition. That and it's fun to see if their staffy on rope can stay in the back during a squeeling tyre turn.

3. The pure number of vehicles that get pulled over and on the spot towed away at random road blocks and breath checks - even at 9am!

hmm, in my opinion only, IBM should stick with what they know best. I think that the study results are telling us that the number of trips via private car, to or through inner Brisbane, have increased at a higher rate over recent years, than in other cities such as Sydney/Melbourne.

but I could be wrong.

It because they are all used to clear drive down queens street in their tractors.

It messes with their minds if they have a single car in front of them.

Should bus a few to Sydney, and then let them see real traffic.

On a real busy day, my gps estimate 40km trip home takes 4 mins longer than first estimated.

Too true, a traffic jam in my area used to be 5 cars, it's now 10 cars !!! Bloody stressful !!

From that report:
Worldwide, the cities assessed as having the most painful commute, when combined with other factors, were Beijing and Mexico City, followed by Johannesburg, Moscow and New Delhi.

Brisbane ranked 13th, behind Sydney in 10th place.

I'm glad I don't live in Johannesburg anymore. Driving in Brisbane is a real pleasure by comparison.

Get rid of that sodding bug!

If the traffic in Brisbane is the most stressful in the country, there's not much wrong with the place imo anyway.

I've driven pretty much the same routes for the last 8 years around Brisbane and the traffic is very predictable in that it gets worse and worse as the weeks go by.

Coupled with the fact that Brisbane seems to have attracted the biggest bunch of commonsenseless road planners in the world gives us the position we are in today. Every single new road "improvement" pretty much always just moves the problem a few hundred metres down the road. The Gateway "improvement" at Nudgee was a classic example. Take the worst intersection in the whole of South East QLD improve it and somehow make it worse.

Only in Queensland, where our car number plates are adorned with "QLD: The Smart State!

What annoys me most is the lack of driving courtesy. Manners cost nothing.

I agree, however, that will not really get me home much quicker.

Some of the bumper to bumper highway driving does definitely impact the flow of traffic. Because QLDers love to drive as close as is possible to the person in front, it means that when one person brakes, the person behind has to brake twice as hard and the person behind 4 times as hard and so on and so on.

This is greatly on show everyday on the Gateway where you will be doing 70km/h and within seconds at a standstill and again back to 70km/h again within another 10 secs.

I reckon it's bollocks and nothing other than City driving.

Bet it's no worse than Melbourne, Sydney or London.
