Default Is Bribie Island suitable?

Hi Guys,

we are currently awaiting a decision on our visas, and are planning a reccie should we get a positive decision. we are looking at staying in a holiday let in Bribie Island, but am unsure as to what the area is like and how far away it is from Brisbane Central, to do research on other areas etc, also looking at settling in redlands area, is that within a reasonable distance from Bribie Island?

thanks in advance x

Redlands is completely the other side of Brisbane from Bribie.

To get there would mean having to travel through Brisbane.

Getting into Brisbane could be a pain at a busy time....depends at what sort of time you would be travelling.

Bribie is not very central...it is out on it's own

may be nice enough place to stay though.

It takes us about 45 mins to drive to Bribie Island northbound and about the same to get to the CBD southbound - that's on a good day with reasonable traffic. So, in all it's about a 90 minute drive from Central Brisbane.

If you need a good location for checking things out then the Redlands area would be much better suited. Bribie Island is pretty far from both Brisbane and the Redlands.

The whereis site tells me it's about 1 hour and 15 minutes to get from Bribie to the start of the Redlands. It could be a lot longer if traffic is bad. Plus you'd have to cross the bridge about $2.70 each way I think.

If you're going into Brisbane (from Bribie) it looks like 1 hour and 6 minutes. Again could be longer with traffic. You wouldn't have to cross the bridge though, so no toll.

On the other hand Cleveland to Brisbane is about 35 minutes (according to whereis). You wouldn't have to cross a bridge there either.

So if it were me I'd stay in the Redlands but possibly plan an overnight stay in Bribie if you really want to see it.

Driving from Brisbane CBD to Bribie island, with little traffic, takes approx 1hr 30mins. Then down to redlands will take about 45-55mins.

Probably not the best place to base yourself if you're gonna look at houses in the redlands area......

Hi;
IMO Bribie would be fairly hopeless base for exploring Brisbane. It's a lovely place, my in-laws lived there and we spent a lot of time with them, but it is a long, long drive to Brisbane. The road from the island out to the motorway is quite a way and soon gets irritating (IMO).

So other than redlands, can anyone recommend where we should look at for a holiday let for 3 weeks, ideally in a quiet town but close to brisbane to explore. thanks in advance x

Redcliffe has holiday lets. We had a beachfront house in Woody Point which is the suburb next to it and could get to the northside of brisbane in 20 minutes in off peak. 30 mins to the CBD on weekends. Loads to do in that area when your not searching for jobs etc, from beaches, iceskating, good restaurants/pubs to historic walks to shopping, all there. If you were looking at it as a longterm option its also worth noting the massive bridge under construction will cut commute times to just about all of brisbane next year.

According to google directions, its 112km driving by car, from redlands bay to bribie...... I can't see how you can get there in 1hr 10 (unless you have a helicopter)??

Yes ,i just looked at that and they reckon its two hours. No way does it take us that long, except once when we were held up in traffic,i think that was the woodfood festival weekend.
You need to go with whereis.com,they will get you there quicker, they quote an an hour and 27mins door to door, but i can do it quicker, honest.

Yeah, I just looked at whereis.com.au, much quicker according to that website, as you say.
