I would describe the Lounging About The House In Shorts And T-Shirt scene but I wouldn't want to upset further.

Is that place still full of miserable pasty-faced people? :D

There's only two words to describe what I've seen so far and it's grey and derelict (mostly!). I have only seen one view that I really thought was pretty and that was sat in the services this afternoon. I think that's mostly because I was right next to the heater though

Get out into the countryside is my advice ... with a few layers on ...

Think of that country pub with a roaring open fire ...

Sheffield is awful though, to be fair, and not the best place to represent the country. The first time I saw Sheffield it was on a dark, rainy winter's night and from a distance it looked like something from Dante's Inferno.

Are you not confusing it with Middlesbrough?

I have never been to Middlesbrough - it was the chimney smoke and low cloud that did it for Sheffield. I'll add that it was a great night out and the people there were really nice. It still looked depressing though.

I'm sat here in a hotel in Sheffield waiting for the A-ha concert tonight and I feel so depressed it's not even funny. The hotel is crap - hasn't even got a kettle!:eek: so I went out and bought some wine. :D

Don't want to have too much of it though, cos I want to be able to take some piccies tonight

I have decided I really don't like the UK and I want to go home. Only 2 weeks left

Unless it has changed drastically in the last 10 years then Sheffield is a pretty grim city. Countryside nearby is pleasant though.

I have nothing against the UK but on our recent trip I did not see much that floated my boat. Berkshire was nice. Merseyside, where my brother lives, looks like the Luftwaffe has just visited........

I'm sure there's a joke about that. Something about the Luftwaffe bombing Liverpool and causing ten million pounds of improvements.

Actually, I thought Liverpool was a pretty good city. Certainly has a lot going on and the people are friendly.

Never been. Just know the joke. Also, cannot foresee a time I would go there. There must be 25 European cities I want to visit but Liverpool is not on that list. I've nothing against it, just nothing pulls me to it.

They're all shut!! My MIL owned a lovely little pub in Thornton but she had to close because the brewery wanted to sell the pub. It just wasn't making money anymore. Same thing has happened to almost all of her competitors too. Very sad to see :(

Yeah, I think you're right. Mind you, I went to Manchester the other day, and that was pretty much the same

They are lovely aren't they. I have a few friends from there. None of them live there though, so I won't be going :D

Indeed, I guess the march of Wetherspoons and mock Oirish pubs is continuing unabated.

Still, better than the Brisbane drinking options ...
