Bob Brown gone
One of the biggest assholes in Canberra has quit:
http://www.news.com.au/national/bob-...-1226325656372 Never saw that coming. |

Re: Bob Brown gone
He has the perfect bad guy face. He's probably up for leading role in the next Underbelly. Maybe he's playing himself.
|
Re: Bob Brown gone
Always quite like him myself, particularly his innate ability to make liberals seeth with rage. He's probably screwed the long term fortunes of the green party though.

The only two possible drivers for him to leave now would seem to be either being shafted by Julia on the carbon tax (a possible), or a lurid gay sex scandal (shades of Jeremy Thorpe) in the weekend papers. Neither seem particularly likely, so maybe he just can't stand the stench of aussie politics any more? |
Re: Bob Brown gone
I'm wondering what kind of environmental plans are about to start dribbling out of Canberra.
I don't blame Brown for jumping ship. I wouldn't want to be the green caretaker in a quarry. |

I ain't going to debate this either so CF=0! |
Re: Bob Brown gone
Holy cow! That's a shock. Good riddance!

Re: Bob Brown gone
Whether you agree with his policies or not he has been an effective politician with conviction and passion. Few senators work as hard as him and few politicians have his qualities.
BTW I disagree with a most of his policies but wish there were more politicians with his integrity. |

I see a place for strong political characters such as Katter, Joyce, Xenothon, Abbott etc. Like a Pendulum, the discussion and resultant reactions tend to settle debate somewhere in the middle. Democracy at work even if it does strain my patience at times. I do admire him coming out in the 70's when homosexual acts were still illegal in Tasmania. He's 67 and has chosen retirement. Good luck to him. I suspect after a hiatus he will be back in the public eye in other organisations/ boards |
Re: Bob Brown gone
Bob Brown rose to fame by opposing a hydro electric scheme for the Franklin river in Tasmania. The pro's and cons of this is available somewhere but surely a viable option could have been worked out and engineered into complementing the natural beauty of the place? And saving a lot more than a few million tonnes of carbon release p.a. as well??

Re: Bob Brown gone
Good Luck Bob - thanks for setting up the green party into a viable and permanent force for years to come & all your honesty...no wonder all the mainstream party supporters despise you!

The impression I got that he was liked by his peers and had a touch of good will in him...
It seemed though that he had the courage of his convictions.. |

Abbott's gone!? Thank Christ for that ;)
My thoughts are that the left has the best ideas but they haven't a clue how to implement them. Why can't both sides realise that not everything has to be opposed, at times they act like immature kids in the schoolyard, our gang's better than your gang and all that. There must be a few things that both sides agree on so why can't we have just a bit of bi-partisan co-operation to save us tax-payers a bit of money. |
