Default The Best Restaurant in Sydney

A mate is coming out to visit in a few weeks and suggested he takes us out for dinner.

As it's primarily a business trip, he'll be on expenses so price isn't a consideration.

What is the best restaurant in Sydney to go to for Sunday lunch? I was wondering about the local Leagues but suspect that Sydney has better to offer.

Ah yes. Seafood and nuts are no good. The first makes him sick, the latter kills him, potentially before the bill arrives.

Money really isn't an issue at all on this occasion.

Adria at Darling Harbour.

Took OH there for 50th birthday at the weekend. Fab food, wide and varied menu. Spit roasted meat platter is superb

Tetsuya - Fabulous restaurant and certainly the place to go if you are on an expense account.

We have a booking at Tetsuya's for July 2009; we made it in October 2008. Personally I'm not sure ANY restaurant is worth that long a wait but my husband wants to go.

Hmmm, can't do seafood...bummer...here are a few I'd recommend:

Quay is great www.quay.com.au and great views if there's not a cruise ship in (as there was a few Val's Days ago ah well, now I know where to check the schedules); have to check if it's open for Sunday lunch though.

Sugaroom is very good www.sugaroom.com.au

The Wharf at the Sydney Theatre Company is also very good, and great location.

Otto on the wharf at Woolloomooloo is one of my favourites www.otto.net.au

You'd have to check them all re. opening for Sunday lunch, as it's certainly not a given in this town.

The Altitude (in the Shangri La hotel) is great - 35 floor view down onto the harbour bridge and opera house. Not cheap, but as you said, this is not a factor. www.altitudesydney.com

The Summit is quite good too (47th floor of Australia Square) as rotates while you eat. The prk belly is great www.summitrestaurant.com.au

If you do go for a harbourside resuaruantm the try to book for dusk, as it looks at its best then...

If you like food and eating out, the SMH Good Food Guide is a worthwhile investment.

A couple of mine on that list plus a few I forgot about.

Foveaux is very good but I think they try too hard to be clever; my palate got a bit confused at times. Overall a very pleasant dining experience though - great basement bar, excellent service.

Guillaume at Bennelong (at the Opera House) is supposed to be very good indeed; we couldn't get in before christmas but will try again soon.

Bird Cow Fish very popular with the trendy Eastern Suburbs set; good, casual, not sure it why it has a hat.

Milsons - went for Christmas lunch (as it's within staggering distance ) which is not really representative; it was good, nothing special, will go back to see how it is on an evening with a la carte.

Another one with a good rep I've just recalled - Sails at Lavender Bay. Great food, good location and view of the bridge if you don't get sat right by the ferry terminal.

Have had other recommendations for the Shangri La one, must try it.
