Which of these cities is the best for families... and why?

Manchester
Leeds
Liverpool
Birmingham
Newcastle

If you think my question is either daft, or difficult/impossible to answer, why do you think we can answer the same question about Australian cities... especially since Perth for example is about as far from me as Moscow is from you in Manchester.

All the above brilliant cities.

Never get my head round all this 'which city in OZ is family friendly, best for kids' BS..

I dunno? Ask people that live in these places and see what they say. Manchester's pretty crap so there's your answer for there

But there are many who would disagree with you just as you will find many differing opinions on every single place here.
There are plenty of people who think Perth is great yet there are many posts stating that it is the most boring place on earth, souless etc etc
At the end of the day Suzy, you have to really try to think about what you as a family want in terms of lifestyle, affordability, climate & follow your instincts. What other people think counts for nothing.
Good luck btw!

Can I please just clarify that I'm not asking the question for myself, I am just interested in the answer.

Perhaps you should have been a little more specific in your initial post to avoid the confusion?

So we don't know why you think Manchester's crap...therefore can't tell you if any of those same reasons exist in Melbourne (or Perth).

Maybe we should have a poll where everyone can vote for the state they live in?

I've lived in Perth for almost 20 years and have 2 young children. If we were ever to leave Perth, it would be to spend some time in the UK. Great for young children, but I have some concerns about teens. I think that you need to have yearly trips out of WA, for variety. In Perth you're still very close to nature, there's lots of bush and open spaces and the beaches are fantastic. There's something for everyone here. Yes, it's isolated and rather backward, but the more UK migrants the better - ready for the next daylight saving vote.

BTW, there are lots of northerners in Perth, in particular I've met lots of Mancunians (3 families in one of my son's football teams alone).

Didsbury is actually part of Manchester and you know full well that those parts of Cheshire, Salford, Stockport, Oldham, Bury and all the rest of them are really just parts of Manchester in everything but name.
