OK - books are my passion - and I mean passion. Heaven for me would be to get locked in a well stocked library and for people to forget all about me!

I am not a snob when it comes to books though - I try to read anything and everything - I only stop reading a particular book if I find it truly crap and I gain nothing from it or if the book is so hard going and it becomes a pain rather than a pleasure.

Top books I have read - in no particular order:-
The Stand - Stephen King
The Bible According to Spike Milligan - Spike Milligan
1984 - George Orwell
David Copperfield - Charles Dickens
My Sister's Keeper - Jodie Piccoult

Anything by Dean Koontz
Anything by Stephen king (except Dark Tower books)
Anything by the Bronte sisters

Biographicals include:-
Robbie Williams
George Harrison
John Lennon
Ringo Starr
Paul McCartney
Joe Cocker
Boy - Roald Dahl

Non-fiction:-
any book on war history - mainly ww1 and ww2 - military history/social history.

Just about anything really - I am the type of person who sits on a bus and has to read everything in sight

I am a huge Stephen King fan and The Stand is also one of my all time favourite books

I also enjoy Jeffrey Deaver novels.....my favs are The Bone Collector and Blue Nowhere. Also recently read a terrific book by Mo Hayder called The Treatment.

Other authors I enjoy are Karin Slaughter, Dean R. Koontz, James Herbert ..... mostly horror and crime/mystery type books.

I love it when you get a book that you just can't put down and there have been a few times when I have been reading a book and I just wished it would never end. The kind of book where you get totally caught up in the story and the characters are very real. Just finished reading Stephen Kings - Bag of Bones and I didn't want it to end.

Now reading The Stone Monkey by Jeffrey Deaver - the last of the books I brought to Oz with me. I just wish I had brought more books with me.....used to buy 2 or 3 at a time in Asda or when WH Smith had special offers on. Just can't seem to find a decent book shop here that has a good range at affordable prices. Looks like I will be joining my local library very soon !!!

Wendy

I hate to admit it, but I have really liked most of the books I've read from Oprah's book list. Really enjoyed "The Book of Ruth", "Gap Creek", "House of Sand and Fog", "The Poisonwood Bible", etc. Although some of them are a bit depressing, they are very good reads.

I used to work in what was then Websters Bookshop in Brighton (now Waterstones) and one of our regular customers was James Herbert - I was amazed when I first met him; very shy, quite small and insignificant, he used to try and shop without being spotted - much nicer than some of the attention seekers.

I met John Irving once in Toronto and couldn't talk. I was like one of those crazed fans when they meet Mick Jagger or something. I just stood there making stupid sounds until he laughed at me. All I wanted to say was that I really loved The Cider House Rules. It made me cry. If you can't read the book, rent the movie. Great performances by Toby McGuire, Charlize Theron, Kathy Baker and Michael Caine.
