We plan on shipping our double bed to use in the spare room when we get to Australia and we want to buy a BIG bed ;) Can you tell me if the king size in Oz is the same as the king size in the UK? I'm thinking of buying quilt covers and sheets etc. before going as I've read they can be expensive over there.

Hi Lyn,

Their Queen is equivalent to our King which incidently is 5' 3" and not 5' which our King is.

Our sizes go single, double, king and queen.
Australias are single, double, queen then king.

My friend is already out there we are due to go anytime our house sale is going through, although we do have to activate our visa before the 4th Sept so we've booked a 2 week hol w/c 16th Aug.

Double - 138cm x 188cm (4'6" x 6'2")

i think king size is the equivilant of superking in uk, ie.. massive :)

yep its bigger we've bought one, afraid your covers wont fit.

we are currently renting but looking to buy a house, a problem we've had is when you include the bedsides (10ft 3") we've found it wont fit in some bedrooms we've looked at. :unsure:

dont regret it though its bloody beautiful :thumbup:

Solved that one - Aussie Queen sized bed, two English double duvets, one each and they overlap in the middle :D

A pain to change the bed sheet, fillis up washing machine quicker too.
ahh but the luxury of space, before DD wakes up and claims bed as her own pushing us out or to the edges.
Would make sheets & covers but difficult to get fabric wide enough to avoid seams.
