His position was clearly untenable and only a matter of time. I think the creation of a work position just for his lover, even before becoming his partner, the hurt aired in public by his jilted former wife of long standing, not to say his moralistic platform of family values ....all made him a hypocrite with little standing.

Not to say his evident anger at being outed ....

Up until his dummy spit last Friday, I thought there was a faint chance he might be able to cling on. However calling your effective boss 'inept' was not the smart move when you should be keeping your head down and praying for a disaster to happen.

I had the distinct impression that Trunbull left for his sucking up to the US with an implicit order to the Nationals "make sure he's not there when I get back". And here we are, with the beetrooter gone and the Nationals likely to be much more controllable in future.

Its so sad the way Labor party have spent so much time and our valuable tax dollars on someone's private life.

Sad but that's the way the Labor party waste our money ..... always then and always now.

Speculation Garry. Even then it wouldn't even come close to what Labor have wasted on this topic.

Labor didn't waste anything. Labor just had to sit back whilst the coalition knifed itself.

If he had gone when he was found to be an illegitimate kiwi, when he already knew his mistress was pregnant, then a vast amount of wasted time, money and heartache could have been avoided - for everyone.

He was too arrogant to consider his hypocrisy, and then his corruption, would come out - now he's kicked out in disgrace.

Long term thinking is what's missing.

Having a mistress and getting her pregnant is his business, not yours, nor your beloved Labor party.

You guys really know how to waste so much shit.

Mediscare drama wastage again.

So shallow, so unproductive, what a loser lot the Labor party are.

As most have pointed out, it's not mainly his hypocrisy - instead it's his corruption in inventing fake highly paid jobs for her. That what did for him.

Mind, the hypocrisy didn't help, that what made him a laughing stock.

And then he decided it would be a good move to attack his boss.

I'd call him Mr Cockup, if that weren't a little on the nose.

Absolute bollocks. Maybe you have never had the experience of forming a sexual or romantic relationship with someone but you would be pretty desperate to call someone your "partner" after a number of get togethers. Especially when you have a family thrown in the mix.

The Victorian-era moralizing of the modern left and SJWs is a wonder to behold

They are destroying the hard fought for freedoms that we all enjoy - unless those freedoms pertain to minorities, those with gender issues, muslims etc of course. Then it's all hunky dory

Bizarre times

Let's be honest, he hasn't really gone anywhere, he's still in Parliament.

Keep your dick in your pants. If you're married, separate officially before sticking your dick in someone else. Don't give highly paid jobs to your bit on the side. Don't lie about it. Don't judge others - at monumental expense to the country - and not expect to get judged yourself. Don't bitch about being judged for your behaviour when you're in the public eye and you've just publicly judged thousands of Australians for months. Behave like a decent human, do your job properly on behalf of your electorate and your country and you won't lose your job and get judged.

It's not ****ing complicated.

Except none of the above is for you to judge and you assumed a lot.

Perhaps you maybe should thinking about assuming he was no longer in love with his wife and people do meet each other at work.

A lot of very human traits in that.

Isn't it funny. People (left wingers) complain if they are rich (Turnbull) or an adulterer (Joyce) but lying, tasteless scumbags like Shorten (mediscare and union corruption) seem to slide under the radar.

That man really needs to be put into the spotlight. I guess that will only happen if he ever becomes PM and its going to be a terrible ride.

Oh he's said he will be quiet and won't snipe from the backbenches.

Like Abbott....

I wonder how many of the bribes/goodies he extracted for his constituents will now be reversed? I can see him forming a coalition of disgraced and failed ministers on the backbench with Abbott et al - an "Axis of Ar*eh*le". They have a hatred of trunbull and zero credibility, but if someone like Dutton were to hold out the enticement of power again, I can see them as a faction pulling down the failed coalition edifice; only to make it even worse.
