More nanny state bullshit. Europe is the last place we should be looking for a lead - the EU is a nanny state on steroids.

I heard a program on ABC radio on this. Sounds like the industry and tabloid press have got everyones knickers in a twist on this one. The program had someone from the NT who was on the government car standards panel most insistent the talk of the ban was the car industry trying to spike the legislation that would mean tighter standards but no ban. Normally there is a phase in of these standards.

The recognition is that bullbars can be made safer and as someone mentioned earlier there are European standards on this.

BULLBARS ARE NOT GOING TO BE BANNED.

Urban 4WDs are friggin selfish.

That's kind of a bold statement based solely upon a program you listened to on the ABC.
The current view is that while they may not banned all together, they will however, be subject to new ADR's that will bring them into line with European design [GTR09]. In other words they will no longer be steel or alloy bullbars but oversized plastic polymer fitments that would be as useless as tit's on a bull.
Like saying "We're not going to ban tea pots! We're going to make them out of chocolate"
Please don't take my word for it read the actual Govt. Regulation Impact Statement pdf Appendix 11.

The people on the program Nicholas is too tired for powerhouse museum. We will come round yours instead. in the decision making process and the NT guy was against a ban. Right now no decision has been made. Definitely no ban. Vehicles maybe more likely to be damaged but people, especially children will be safer.

Actual legislation will probably vary once vested interests have corrupted the process.

Could you clarify the vested interests that may corrupt the process?
I along with many other rural folk would like to continue to protect ourselves & our vehicles from roo strikes.
Reading the proposed regulations it appears that data has been collected in relation to the numbers of pedestrians & cyclists killed on the roads 300+ in the report. There is no data to show either the % of deaths that were attributed directly to the fitment of Bullbars/Roobars nor the number of deaths caused by Roo strikes. Both should be looked at prior to any change.
It would be silly to prevent the deaths of a small % of pedestrians if that is outwayed by an increased number of deaths on rural roads.
I read a comment the other day that said motorists should pay more attention to Roos at the side of the road. Two of the impacts I've had the Roo cleared the fence/hedge landing straight in the middle of the road. Given that they can leap 10m in one bound & travel at 60k there is zero warning, they just appear & bang you hit them.

Bloody hell, they're obviously city slickers who've never had a roo jump out on them at night.

A friend, in a small 'normal' car was travelling up to Emerald to work and saw a roo heading towards the road from the side, she slowed down and the bloody thing jumped on the roof, she got away unscathed but the car was a right off. If she'd continued at the speed she was doing originally, she'd have missed it. Nothing to do with bull bars but interesting none the less because I'm sure most of us would automatically slow down. She's now got a 4x4 with bull bars though.
