Most Singapore Airlines fares allow cancellation before departure for a 65GBP fee...the rest would be refunded.

I would've thought that typically in a case like this you can get the fee waived.

Hey PP I wouldn't stress too much about your Dad's health, loads of people have heartbeat irregularities.

I hope he gets the trip sorted.

I shall speak to our agents at work today to see what suggestions they have and next week I can contact SIA if need be. Then I guess if he cant fly, I will see what I can do to get there.
It's true... doctors are fixing heart problems everyday, so hang in there and believe he will be on his way before too long. In the meantime, try the sweet approach with Singapore Airlines... and if that doesn't work, make a fuss and get noisy in the media. If all else fails, hop on the plane and worry about the cost later. Best of luck. x

Thanks for all your advice everyone.

I didnt sleep last night so feel shattered today and have spoken to my boss who has said I can change my holiday and do whatever I need to which is brilliant.

I am going to get my passport renewed as it runs out in April, get that sorted just in case. I was like a bloody kid this morning crying at work, I couldnt help it, feeling so sorry for my Dad who was like an excited kid about coming out and had already started doing lists and packing.

Remember when all is said and done as long as you are together it makes no odds where you are, because you will be with your dad and he will be with his little girl the location is irrelevant

Oh Sam I know how excited you must have been and your Dad too !! but like you said, thankfully it has been picked up while he is at home and he can get everything sorted.

I hope the airline will rearrange the dates for when your Dad is well enough to travel.

Urge your dad ( or you to save him stress) to speak to singapore airlines, hopefully he can change the date or rebook soon.

As R said many people have irregular heartbeat, so hopfully its something that can be sorted.

Just add, when I came back from UK last week I sat next to an Irish Lady going to Perth, it was her 15th trip to see family and she was 84. She was right smart and sassy, talking about her fashion buys for a wedding and her Clairns make up purchases, quite a gal

Anyway she had even managed to get travel insurance. So hope he gets here soon

Everything seems magnified at the moment, my PTSD has been terrible ever since an incident the other week so now my irrational fear of loss is ten times worse.

But I am telling myself they have found it, they are looking after Dad and are going to find out what it is.

I start college next Wednesday, I am nervous about that as well, oh to be the invincible person I once thought I was instead of the vulnerable one I am now.

As has been said, irregular heartbeats are not uncommon. I lost my job for 3 months because an ECG found I had a left bundle branch block. As you can imagine I did a lot of research on it and came to the conclusion they didn't actually know a lot about it other than it wasn't "normal".

I tackled the cardiologist about this and asked what percentage of the population had the condition - he admitted they had no idea and that it was only by having an ECG that it would be picked up!

I got my job back, no medication or follow up required.

Without trying to second guess the quacks, if Dad has anything like that I would press for another opinion as to the relevance to travel. Just because the heart isn't behaving regularly doesn't necessarily mean there's a good chance you are going to keel over anytime soon. (My "problem" was 15 years ago!)

Oh PP... these are the hardest things, the regrets about the past.

You have done stunningly well for yourself, even if it doesn't feel like it at the mo - and of course you want to see your dad. In my experience, DOING things is the only way to get my mind off this sort of stress, so work out the travel possibilities.

Definitely talk to the airline. I've been through this sort of thing 3 times and the airlines have always been very constructive and helpful. We've missed connections and had to rearrange things mid-journey and they've always sorted it.

They can do wonders now. I had a racing pulse, 150, felt fine but docs not happy. Was in hospital over night, usually day only but I have only 1 kidney, so kept over night. They went in through the groin and there wasn't pain or anything. In fact the entry was covered by a bandaid! So try not to worry too much. I'm sure he will be fine.
