It is very sad. The parents must have some kind of mental health disorder as it is hard to believe anyone in their right mind could behave in such a manner.

They also have an older kid who is now going to lose both parents as well as their twin brothers and sisters.

This happened just 20 minutes down the road from where we live and it just makes me think that crime here is really no different to the UK. The only affecting factor (in my opinion) is that it happens less here due to a significantly smaller population than the UK. There was a similar situation that unfolded in the UK a few years ago, if my memory serves me well but I cannot remember if the kids actually died.

The bottom line with this story is that it is a tragedy all round for all concerned. I think the parents should be legally barred from going anywhere near ANY children until the end of their natural lives. If I had my way I would kick seven shades of shit out of them too.

As a father I simply cannot even begin to comprehend that they allowed this to happen to their own children?

There is also a sickening account of how a 25 year old man beat a 18-24 month old toddler to death in the US this week. The policeman shot him dead (the man) but the boy died in hospital. Personally, if I was the police officer and no-one was looking I would have kneecapped the f****r before putting a round into his forehead.

WTF is wrong with this world. It just seems to be worsening (relative to my time on earth) all the time?

As a parent the only way that I comprehend things like this is to assume that those involved were severely mentally unwell. I have a great difficulty in understanding willful neglect and cruelty.

it is truly heartbreaking, I too cant help but think there is some mental health problems especially as Mum said in court "I dont think I fed them enough" neighbours have reported one of the other children coming round to their house naked asking to live with them? other side said Dad came round asking for water?? why the **** were'nt social services notifield or already involved?

I agreed that social service should have been involved but I do think that society is beginning to try to use social services as the complete failsafe which is obviously is not. There is a wider spectrum of responsibility including the parents, grandparents, wider family, friends, neighbours, schools, child care, social care agencies, health care professionals and the police to consider in keeping vulnerable people safe in our communities.

It made me cry when I read this.
Hubby and I were not sure we would be able to have kids (we now have a 16 month old daughter) and so I find it really upsetting that people who are fortunate to have kids can be so callous to let them suffer such a long lingering death.
.....I worry when my daughter has a temp- so I guess something must be missing in their makeup to be so bloody uncaring. To make it more understandable, I assume they are drug addicts or mentally ill.
My sister used to foster the daughter of a heroin addict whose 2 year old daughter had not eaten for days when found alone. Gorgeous child too.

I agree - I also read a sickening story in the Sheffield Star regarding a very similar story of a 3 year old being left locked in a room to starve to death - she died from the neglect.

Ireally can't get both the stories out of my head today - and I am glad that I can still feel so bad and that i am not de-sensitized

Oh and in my list of responsibility, judges and the criminal system all have a part to play too.

my child is the same age and I just couldn't help but cry when I heard this.

I cannot comprehend how the legal system is utter b*llocks when it involves child cruelty (or anything else for that matter).

These parents should be left unfed and neglected in a cot for weeks on end, before they are locked away for life.
