Avast Virus scanner problems....
 

Probably should be in the Lab but more people read this. I'm fairly sure there are a few Avast users on here.

Looks like a security update has caused Avast to give false reports, on a nasty worm.. I deleted about 6 important programs before I realised. Bleeding waste of a afternoon.

I'm using AVG again now and all is well.

I got avast and have had with explorer crashing every bloody 20 mins!!!
Whats the options dude?

Go to add remove programs delete it.... then download AVG. From here...

If you cant delete it... right click on the icon in the tray bar... then go to on action protection control... then a left pane will come up in the next window... stop all activity.

I've been having probs with ie and ff failing to open webpages after about an hour or so online. This started after I downloaded and installed MSE, So I uninstalled that and went with avast afterwards.

Today I opened avast and it said a virus had entered my operating memory (which would explain browsrers grinidn to a halt), so I checked to restart and schedule boot scan.

The scan found 30 instances of infected files that supposedly attached themselves to bona-fide programs. I used MOVE THEM TO CHEST option and then later deleted them.

VERY Important: DO NOT TRY TO DELETE SYSTEM FILES IN CHEST. Leave them alone. They are critical to your OS and ARE NOT infected.

Will update later to tell you if avast worked to fix my problem. Was an interesting news comment BUT may be many who genuinely have been infected by this virus. If it hides in boot, then maybe other anti-virus or spyware progs may not pick it up.

Everyone that has Avast is affected. At first I thought my computer had been totally hijacked, which has happened once before. Anyone reading this needs to shutdown avast and install another virus scanner..

It's pretty hard to actually get avast to shut, as virus warnings pop up on every action you take.

Personally I think there is more to it than first looks.... it's made Avast act like an actual virus.... I lost all my system restore points due to this.


For an experiment I'm letting avast run its course on my sons machine..... ignoring the warnings just to see if they can fix it themselves.... Plus I'm sick of fixing software problems today ;)

Ahhh, thanks for that guys! Our work computers have Avast and we have been getting that message all day today - so is it really a worm/virus/trojan? It just popped up in the bottom right hand corner every now and again and not reliably with any program but often when you opened a new program. We have all just gone home and only a couple of us recognized that it could be something dodgy (most of the rest of the staff just about recognize the on button). We have an offsite help-person so should we be calling them tomorrow do you think?

I'd say Avast will have this fixed in 24 hours.

I've never seen a virus scanner play up to that extent before.... force reports on scans at times but never on opening every program. Last time that happened I was well and truly hijacked.

It had me confused because my kids had download a on line game that had the Madchook.dll virus which was a seperate problem.... I thought for quite a while they were associated problems.

I dont want to spend an arvo like that again. It dawned on me that it was the scanner when Malawarebytes (which somehow managed to run unimpeded) came up with no problems.

If you seen my earlier post you'd see I had been having some similar kind of problem. I eventually uninstalled avast and replaced with avg BUT it seems this was not the problem.

I downloaded and ran spybot search & destroy and it found problems (even others didn't pick up on). After downloading latest updates for it, then running a check for probs and fix probs tabs; I hit immunize tab (make sure if on vista u run it as admin [R click on icon before opening and click run as admin]. Once in immunize screen click on 'immunize' and you should see the process numbers match the processes protected numbers once it is done.

It has fixed my pc and now after several hours on web page opening is as fast as it was prior to the problem appearing.

l use Avira antiviris free edition, its the best anti virus l've ever used. l find it better then Avast but thats just my opinion, also l think its worth down loading microsoft security essentials, l use it as well and the anti virus progaram

I've used AVG for several years, tried avast for a few weeks but it caused a few issues.

Over the past 6 weeks I have been using microsoft security essentials, I reckon it is better than AVG.

It is far less intrusive, just sits in the background as if nothing is there.

I'm now a bit concerned. I have Avast and had no virus messages or problems :confused: I have had a message to say I can update the latest version, is that where the problems are?

I think they must have fixed it before it reached QLD as I have had no trouble on any of our computers either.

See, there is an advantage with being behind.
