Default Australian Driving Licence - WA

Hi guys

I've read somewhere (either here or another forum) where the WA authorities state that if you arrive on a PR visa outside of 3 months of issue, you are not allowed to drive on your UK/International driving licence. Firstly, is this true? and secondly, how do you get an Australian licence?

Hope someone is able to help.
Many thanks.

Hi Bridie

Thanks for the quicky reply. Will we be able to drive a rental car until we get a Aussie licence and purchase a car of our own??

The specific wording is:
If you have a permanent residence visa and intend on living in WA you must obtain a WA drivers licence within 3 months of getting the visa. After this period your overseas authority to drive will not be recognised.
I am pretty sure that they work on 3 months from your date of arrival, or 3 months from date of getting the visa if you are in Australia when you get PR.

After that 3 months, you can be done for driving without a valid licence.
