A King Hit is a usually a gutless punch thrown from beside or behind that the other guy never see's coming which knocks him flat. But don't know where the word comes from....maybe it equates to being smashed by a King with their unlimited resources.

I have heard King Tide used to describe the highest tide of the year, King Sale used to describe a 'mega sale'
...and of course King Kong used to describe large monkeys.

Unfortunately it was in use by Henry Lawson in his writings (1867- 1922- editor of The Bulletin and various writings) and he worked from Sydney so it didn't originate from VFL thuggery .

Yes, but in chess, the king is never hit, nor is it taken. It is trapped.
