What a crock
I tell you what's a crock, the fact that Oz is number 2. Should be number one by miles.

How comfortable would you feel if Uk was number 1?

I would guess that the rankings of the biggest nanny states would come out almost the same.

The problem is the criteria really. One man's thin and watery cup of nescafe is another man's dirty sock flavoured espresso.

Rather odd results.Iceland being close to a failed state with the crash of it's economy and then Ireland with the burst of it's housing bubble,unemployment back up to levels of a generation ago.....both nations rating very high on the so termed list of quality of life scales.

We could add in a few more criteria that might help the UK's chances:

Number of animals less than a kilogram in weight that can kill you:

UK=0
Australia=about 500

Liklihood of you home being destroyed in a bushfire:

UK: 0
Australia: Pretty high.

Ability to use more than a teaspoonful of water to shower in all year round:

UK: Decent chance.
Australia: Almost no chance.

Chances of having Australian for neighbours:

UK: Small
Australia: Guaranteed.

Lifes good here but lets not go to town. Ive seen more social cohesion and sense of community in poorer countries. If youre idea of a good time is sitting with a cup of cocoa and hugging a share portfolio then Australias grand. It certainly seems as though people are basing their idea of a good quality of life on how far ahead they feel financially (which is common amongst expats). I have a decent savings account but Im not willing to hand it over for a slice of suburbia.

Meaningless indeed. Has little to do with happiness levels of folk living in those countries or a lot of things of substance that matter in peoples lives.
