Australia ranks second for quality of life

Re: Officially the best country to live.. almost
All the countries on that list (above) provide a very high quality of life for their citizens. Weren't the Danes (at #16) supposed to be the happiest nation...I'm sure on the basis of some other highly scientific survey or report? Ultimately the QOL is similar enough in these countries that individual preferences will be more important than GDP & literacy figures.

Also I don't think moving from one country to another higher on the list guarantees you a higher salary no matter what job you get.....we are talking averages here

How many countries are there, I dont even know. Surely being in the top 50 would be a bonus. Whats at the bottom?

No kidding...that's why migrating for many of us is based on more than just salary or cost of living. There are so many other factors involved. Quality of life, as mentioned. Satisfaction and contentment with your surroundings, community...

First time the UK has been outranked by a non OECD country? Fair do's, Liechtenstein had the highest GDP per capita by far.

It's not subjective and personal at all. If you look at the survey, you'll see that they use very specific criteria. They don't just sit around asking "OK, who's got the best quality of life?" without making any attempt to define the term.

It is meaningless unless you want to take your Aussie banner to Africa and rub their faces in it.

Norwegians really make the most of their short in months but long in days summer. It is a real celebration...then in winter they are out a lot on skis....be interesting to know if Australians really spend so much(if at all) longer periods outside?

When deciding where to emigrate to - it was either Norway or Aus for me. Norway would have come first if they didnt speak norwegian and my kids dont.
Oslo is stunning. The country is run brilliantly and they have huge revenues to fund infrastructure because of their oil reserves. Stacks of Norwegians have 2nd homes on the 'fjords' of which there are trazillions. It really does look like a picture postcard.
On the other hand, waaay too much pickled herring and not enough vodka in the world will overcome eating the delicacy they have with the rotted fish they eat.
On the downside - the 20hrs of sunlight is a bit weird and the suicide rate is really really high (on account of eating rotten fish with vodka at twilight at 4am)

And to top it off Norway has the crown after it's win in this years EuroVision, which is to be staged in Oslo next summer.
Expect that clinched it,with regards to it's number one place.
