From what I see around me, they're shrinking at an alarming rate. One of the benefits of older houses?

Certainly something i noticed on coming to Perth, the iconic large plot with big outdoor area was harder to find than expected. This has happened to extream in the Uk with almost all moder houses having tiny gardens (we had a 1950s council house with large garden) but wasn't expecting to have the same problem in Aus. We ended up buying a property in the Hills outside of Perth with a larger garden because of this.

If it slows down the progress of the young cricketers then I'm all for less back yard.

Not MY back yard, obviously.

Ah, the great Australian myth - a myth that most Aussies still believe they have - the large suburban backyard.
My 3x1 semi cottage in Surrey had a bigger backyard than most Aussies have in Legoland.
