Aussies do not want our support.

I must admit that it drives me up the wall when I hear stuff like this. Whether or not you're happy with a new life in Australia, you can NEVER support Australia against your home country - that would just make you a total w***er. Why deny who you are and where you come from? It might be ok to cheer for Aus against someone else perhaps, but not against your own country, What a to**er!

Asked one fellow why he supported Aussie against England[had home counties accent]answered because he lives here and is a citizen so why not?
Still seems a betrayal to me.At best if one should stay neutral. .

Re: Aussies do not want our support.
So a few drunken Australian men did not appreciate a Englishman cheering on their team translates to Aussies do not want our support?
Perhaps they felt this person was taking the piss by supporting Australia rather supporting them for genuine reasons?
And for all the people who say this man is not allowed to support Australia, do me a favour, he can support whoever the hell he likes, if he see's himself as an Australian or perhaps just likes them better, then each to their own.
It's a free country and it puzzles me why people get so annoyed just because he doesn't support England, maybe England never supported him?

My oh supports Australia over anyone - pretty much always had - 2003 rugby world cup was very good for me!!! when we were moving here my old rugby team got me an autographed massive picture of the England squad celebrating - and its hanging in my lounge - much to koh's horror he wants it in the loo.

as a scot I will support aus against anyone except scotand, england , northern ireland or wales. this was never a popular approach in scotland actually, for example in the world cup. remember being in an edinburgh pub when england played brazil. tons of scots in brazil strips and t shirts. when england scored first, i cheered and thought i was going to be lynched in my home town!

Re: Aussies do not want our support.
Just back from the pub after watching a terrible display against Australia…but the fun was not on the pitch but a bloke from Manchester supporting Australia,
All the Aussies were in one half of the pub with all the Brits on the other when we noticed this pom with an Australian shirt on singing the Aussie national anthem, ALL OF US Brits looked at him with absoulute disgust but the best was to come when a big Aussie turned to him and told hin to “**** off to your own side of the pub you frigging pom” the bloke said he had got Australian citizenship and was supporting Australia, all the Aussies to a man told him in no uncertain terms to “***k off” a couple of the Brits on our side went over to calm the beasts and we ended up having a drink and a laugh all together, the Brit who was supporting Australia had long gone with a flea in his ear from us Brits and the Aussies who could not believe that an Englishman would support Australia when they were playing England….they just could not believe it and kept on and on about it for ages, they said they do not want Brits supporting Australia in any sport as it is in their eyes unbelievable…..Game was crap but the banter and respect between the Brits and the Aussies today was the best I have witnessed since I have been here.
Good day

You also mention that the guy in question has Australian citizenship ie he is now an Australian. So in actual fact I'd argue that the guy WAS supporting his own team; that of his nation not of his birth - Australia. I reckon it's a piss poor showing all round that this guy got hounded out of the pub for daring to speak his own mind and support who he wants.

100% right. There is no telling what some will do. Have seen it myself especially in cricket.

I couldn't believe, believe not being the right word, after all the chat that Australia wiped the floor with England in RL. Annoying. Embarassing, (for them) even?

Now seems a bit over the top and even a bit cringeworthy. It was even more cringeworthy to the expats who were embarassed we were into the whole expat sport thing. They were too busy tucking into their Ceasar salads and Croc Monsieurs to even enter an expat pub! Now I am a migrant myself rather than an expat, I sort of identify with them.
