Applecare...
...comes through again!!!!
The home button on my wife's 20 month old iPhone got a little sticky...had to push it twice sometimes. Have the applecare extended warranty so bought it back to the Chermside Brisbane Apple Store today and the staff member briefly confirmed the issue, quickly retrieved the warranty on his iPad, handed my wife a brand new iPhone (not reconditioned), swapped the sim, set it up and then sent us on our way with a smile. This is the third time we have been treated this way when returning something that is not working. How it should be done. Highly recommend apple and the applecare warranty for expensive items for anyone in two minds. |
Re: Applecare...
Bit concerning though if a button becomes faulty after such little time?

Well it might be if you own another brand but with this sort of service not at all ;)
Apple products are sounding even more expensive to me at the moment from what you're saying, if they don't last and extra cover is required. |

It's not the warranty service in itself that I'm questioning - it's the fact you've had to pay extra in order to make sure you have a phone for just 2 years. That's really not long at all - and you've had a couple of other issues on Apple products too?

Given that all products have some failures and my iPhone button example is a sample size of 1 divided by best selling phone on the planet, you can rest easy. I can vouch for them being great phones and now I can say from experience that the service is really fantastic if you happen to one of the unlucky ones where something goes wrong  |

Because of the extra cost involved in having them replaced - paying for extended warranty on an already expensive product. A phone should really last more than 2 years before anything goes wrong.

Are you posting from planet Ork where 1 or 2 examples of a product breaking indicates to the populace that the brand is unreliable and should be avoided? :D:p
I would suggest that it is reasonable to expect a mobile phone of that expense (and apparent quality) to last more than 2 years, and in that case it should have been covered under your statutory rights rather than having to pay for an extended warranty. |

I haven't suggested that though, have I? I've only said that a phone should really last for more than 2 years without the need for paying an additional amount for an extended warranty.

Good point. They don't at the moment, so hopefully my testimony of fantastic service during the extended warranty period will be helpful to someone choosing between expensive phones with 1 year warranties or someone who is trying to decide whether to pay the extra for the applecare warranty not knowing whether or not it is one of those typical shite extended warranties other places offer. |
Re: Applecare...
I have my share of issues with Apple products, but after sales service definitely isn't one of them. Having fried the battery in my iPad in a hotel room in Bangkok (don't ask what I was doing) I took it in and they swapped it for a new one, despite my admission that I had almost certainly done it myself...
Throw in the genius bar staff, who may not always know the answer but do contact you later with suggestions, and its almost worth the price. Now if Apple could just fix some of the quirks.... Like copy/paste instead of move..... |
Re: Applecare...
they replaced my iphone which I bought in Hong Kong, had no receipt, and had spilt cake in the speakers (mmmm cake ) which broke them - gave me a new one in chermside. Love their quality.
Took son's Macbook air in for a power cable that had failed - they happened to look over the macbook air too and noticed a 'loosening' hinge and had the entire screen replaced 'just to be on the safe side' 1 month out from warranty expiry (!) I cannot see any other manufacturer doing that! |

It is the most disgusting concoction ever and I can only assume it was originally made as a joke.

Re: Applecare...
All replacement iPhones, iPods and iPads are refurbs, they don't give out new products even if you're told they do.
They have brand new cases and screens, but the internals are refurbed. You can tell due to the serial number the new product has. Nothing wrong with the replacements, I've had my fair share. But unless you return the product within a week or two of product launch it will be a refurb. I've managed to scratch my screen on my 4S so hoping to get a replacement before my warranty runs out. |

The free replacement was absolutely brand spankers, came out of the stock cupboard shrink-wrapped, and was one of a pair ,the other being sold to a guy standing next to me. I just picked up one and he picked up another. They offered to transfer crap over, but i just took my sim out.... I didn't unwrap until I got it home. |

When purchased on a two-year plan is the phone under a two-year warranty with the service provider?

Apple call them "new replacements" not refurbs, so he probably wasn't lying, but I have a friend that works at an Apple store, and apparently they are phones that have been returned for whatever reason. They all have brand new cases and batteries, so might as well be new phones. |
