I play the piano (quite badly) but well enough to keep myself entertained. I had a break for a few years where I didn't play as I didn't have a piano but bought a good digital one a couple of years ago. Only problem is all my music is back in UK so I have to play from memory, which wouldn't be so bad if my memory weren't failing....

My piano teacher actually gave up on me rather than the other way round, she died and me being a selfish 13 year old just thought - at least I don't need to explain to my parents that I want to stop lessons. It was sad though as she was a lovely lady.

I learned the recorder at school, I think that was compulsory, I did try my hand at violin but gave up after about 2 lessons as I couldn't stand the screeching.... not of the strings, but of my parents and brothers

My mother thinks she can play the violin, but her attempts at On Wings of Song sends all the neighbourhood cats into a frenzy as it is all played squeakily on the top string.

My mother's side of the family, however, has a lot of professional musicians, mainly strings/piano, and my daughter plays cello, piano and sings. She also composes in both English and Japanese, and loves doing rap. (not sure how musical that last one is!!)
I forgot, despite my mum being deaf, her side of the family were quite musical. Her cousin was Leslie Woodgate who was the conductor of the BBC Symphony orchestra and also wrote music. His son is, apparently, Woody Woodgate, the drummer of Madness. My one and only (albeit, tenuous) claim to fame.

I used to have a huge crush on Woody and Mark Bedford.

Just putting that out there.

Anyway, your tenuous claim to fame is much better than mine - my cousin's cousin is Glenn McCrory who used to box and I think do boxing commentary on the telly when he realised he couldn't hack it professionally.

He was a complete [insert derogatory word of choice here] when he was younger, I can't imagine he's changed much.

Soz, back to music

I had to do piano lessons in my school days. Hated it, but I can play chopsticks. I can strike a few cords on the guitar. I learnt the recorder too, and can play Mary had a little lamb.

I also play drums. That's my meditation. It's especially funny when tipsy.

I played snare in the military band.

My claim to tenuous fame is that I was in a musical with Carey Mulligan, just before she got her big break in Pride and Prejudice. On my father's side there was, I believe a Music Hall singer, but as both actresses and performers were the lowest of the low, it was never really talked about.
