Yes,we did it 8 months ago,we didnt have any friends or family here either and we couldnt have picked a better place to come to.I dont believe in Reccie trips, how can you tell in a couple of weeks if its for you or not.It takes getting back into a normal routine of working ect before you know how well its going.

But then a lot of people do settle too. The trouble is that you don't know if you will until you try it.
Even those that do visit first have no way on knowing if they'll settle long term because it's still a holiday, even if it's to find out about schools, houses etc. and we all know that living here isn't a holiday, it's real life. Out of all the expats I know, (about 20 people as I have family here who are also from the Uk originally), there's only one who doesn't like it here and she did do a reccie first. Another moved to a different part of Australia, but apart from that everyone else wouldn't go back if you paid them and all of them say they have a better life here. :) |

Re: Anyone moved to Oz without visitng first?
I backpacked and met the man of my dreams (aussie) april 05. Married him April 07 on our 2 year anniversary and living on the sunshine coast.
I had already visited friends in Perth for the milennium in 2000 (obviously) and swore Id never return because I reckoned it was Britain in the sun..Which it is to a certain extent but thats a comforter i now realise. What Im trying to say is that I had no dream or wish to be here, unlike most people on this forum. Tried him at home (Liverpool) and he hated the lack of space/rubbish. I couldnt understand but (pregnant) went with it - thought Id change things:) And do you know what? Its all true. Its better here. I watch Sky UK (you can get corrie and eastenders too) and am horrified at what goes on back at home. Even the hoodies say hello here.. Its funny how secure you get and I wouldnt want my 9 month old baby anything but visiting the uk. I was in the wrong. I thank my lucky stars that I realised. from a non believer. 2 years ago I never of had an inkling to do it but I challenge anyone to get up and hear the birds singing, the genuine smiles on people who say g'day even at 6 am!! to wish they were back home. Go for it:) Les |

Yes 8 months in & don't regret it :) If we'd have done a reccie first I think the whole thing would of scared me off & we wouldn't have done it if that makes any sense
