Anyone know where to buy a sari in Perth?
Next Friday is "Indian day" at my work and the staff are expected to dress up. I would like to wear a sari, but don't know where to get one. Anyone have any idea? I have a feeling it's just yardages of silk, but I also need to know how to put the damn thing on so it doesn't fall off half way through the day.

That sounds exciting. I've always wanted to try on a sari to see if they are as comfortable as they look.
I found this link: www.perthsamachar.com/indian_shops.html
It lists a couple of Indian clothes shops. I imagine the shop would show you how to put the sari on and how to make sure it stays on.

Not much good for you but we bought one for my daughter in Singapore when we emigrated here.It consists of a long skirt and a fitted vest that stops just above her belly button. Then a long piece of material draping over her shoulder. She wears it with lots of bangles and henna on her hands and a bindi. The Indian guy in the shop was so excited getting it altogether for her that he was calling all his friends over to look at her.She still wears it.Perhaps it is something that you can run up on the machine.

You could always wear a firmer fitting T-shirt with some bike shorts or a gathered skirt underneath, and buy about 5 or 6 metres of matching coloured material. It is draped around you a few times then over one shoulder, you secure it with a big pin. I'm sure people at your work wouldn't expect you to fork out a lot of money to buy original costumes for a dress up day at work, unless you particularly want to.
Go to www.youtube.com and type in "how to put on a sari" and choose the 2nd video of the girl with purple dress, it's actually quite straight forward.

You might find it easier to wear a Punjabi Suit.

I used to go on the bus down William Street every morning and I'm almost certain that there's an Indian shop there. It's on the same side as the Brass Monkey pub.

Thanks everyone. Sorry for not responding earlier, but we were away for the weekend.
I think I'll go with the traditional sari. Me in bike shorts and form fitting t-shirt is NOT a good look.
I'm working at Graylands, which is the state psych hospital as the secretary in one of the wards. The patients don't get out much unless it's on escorted trips, so we try to bring different things in for them. We did Olympic games 2 weeks ago with Fredos as the prizes instead of medals. Last week was a bbq just for the fun of it and next week will be Indian day. In Octoer we're going to have Canadian thanksgiving complete with all the decorations, roast turkey, cranberry sauce, stuffing, and pumpkin pie.
