It comes down to judgement at the end of the day. Persistence and frequency will be one aspect. Familiarity will be another. I've seen one of the aforementioned posters make some very rude posts but they are infrequent and most often within a context (e.g. a response to a rude post).

Lets face it, some people don't get banned because they are deemed to have good form in the past or are otherwise helpful or of value. At the end of the day, some posters are long-standing posters and the administrators have issued a series of last 'final warnings' and then looked away. And even some of the old characters like Grayling will admit to neither liking - or not liking Australia. I sometimes think that what people post is not necessarily their politics.

It's been pointed out before (by the long suffering mods) that people get banned for being anti-social, and for not serving much purpose, not for disliking Australia. Personally, I believe some anti-Australia posters might cop it as they do nothing but run down an entire nation just because they didn't like it, or post topics which if it was about racism would be illegal on the basis that it is inciting hatred. Whereas other posters who have been rude (who may moreorless like Australia) have been positive contributors at other times. Sometimes they have lost patience with a particular grouse. I can't say I blame them.

I tell you what - if a new poster ran down Australia but was intelligent and good-humoured about it, it would be good - but the chip does eventually come out! I think a lot get silly too quickly - which is a shame as they then ostracise themselves - I think new posters don't realise how close-knit the site is and how well people know each other - and the age-old arguments! I think some of the negative posters realise this and some calm down a bit and go on to be valued posters. This applies to both UK and Australia posters.
