Anyone else out there suffer from BPV
Thats Benign Positional Vertigo, i went to doctors yesterday because since arriving in Oz, i have been suffering badly with dizzy spells to the point i have to sit up right in bed and cant move my head without the room spinning. I am told there is no cure or medication that can be given to relieve the symptoms, and that should it reoccur again in sure a short period that i may need referring to a specialist to make sure it is BPV and not a problem with the circulation to the brain,, (frightening)
So i was wondering if anyone else has this problem and if so what they do to relieve it,, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Wow
Thats Weird, Since arriving i've had exactly the same thing.
Not as severe i might add, but a definate vertigo effect.
Dizzyness and what feels like eyestrain (almost feel like i'm going cross eyed)
I thought it was a bit of pressure from the new job, but seems it could be something else.
I picked up an ear infection after 2 days of being here and thought maybe that was affecting my balance senses

My brother-in-law in the UK had this a couple of years ago. He went to a physiotherapist for a few sessions who did "things" to his neck.
After that he was right as rain. But was told it might come back.
Until he saw the physiotherapist he was really poorly: off work, throwing up constantly if he tried to get out of bed. Not nice.

Re: Anyone else out there suffer from BPV
Luckily the BPV doesn't make me feel sick at all, although when the first spell of dizziness kicks in i can't get out of bed, so its just a good job i dont want to be sick otherwise i'd be in real trouble.
I have to say im really glad its not just me who gets this illness, i was getting worried as the GP said its usually only effects elderly people,, well im nearly middle age but certainly not elderly,, LOL
Thank for you the links i will have a look at them too. I will try anything to help relieve this condition.

Since moving here I've had 3 really serious ear infections which required specialist visits and having my ear suctioned. I've also developed vertigo, but nowhere near what you have. I do .know there are exercises to help (think they were posted above). Give it a try. Hopefully things will clear up for you before too long.

Re: Anyone else out there suffer from BPV
I suffered with all the same symptoms but not any more.
I started chiropractic treatment for a bad back. After the initial examination he asked if i suffer from dizzy spells on waking, ear ache, headaches etc..
Oh yes been a migrain sufferer for years. Not any more, two neck adjustments later and the headaches, vertigo has gone. Still having spinal adjustments as 2 discs are out of place but the improvement in my health has been great.
Anyone NOR perth, i go to mindarie chiropractic centre, well worth getting checked out.

Re: Anyone else out there suffer from BPV
I suffer from postural hypotension, which makes me really dizzy when I stand up from a crouching or sometimes lying down position. My vision goes dark, I get a strange smell in my nose (which I can't really describe) It only lasts a few seconds before going back to normal. I think I have even passed out once before, when I was younger. I am around 6 foot tall, and I think that has a little to do with it.
Don't think I have BPV but I do sometimes get the room spinning, although that's normally after a few glasses of wine

My mum very very elderly gets it and she was hospitalised the last time. She was put on Serc by a specialist which improves the blood flow to the inner ear.
She also has maxolan.
She has not had it for a long while now.

i have bvp, it comes and goes but it's not as bad as it used to be.
once i woke up everything was spinning like mad, couldn't focus on anything, had to just sit up straight and try and focus on something, lasted for 4 days!!
was referred to hospital and got an mri to check my brain but everything ok, doc did exercises with me that involves throwing yourself back and turning your head very quickly, it's to get the particles in your ear drum to go round to were they should be, really does help, but a laugh trying to do it with your oh as he has to catch you

Re: Anyone else out there suffer from BPV
yeah i had it on and off for 8 months last year- I just woke up one morning and slowly rolled over in bed to get comfy and suddenly was overcome with the most awful sensation of the room spinning and I hadnt even opened my eyes yet but it was spinning so much it was like a physical feeling, when I did open my eyes and I sat up it didnt stop, when I got out of bed I fell straight over and hit my head on the bedroom wall! it seemed to fade away thru the day. I was really puzzled by it but just thought it was a one-off and then when I woke up again the next morning it was back with a vengence so I got an appt. with gp that day and he said it was BPV gave me some tablets (made no difference whatsoever) he said it'll just go in time- bummer! full sympathy to you....
