Anyone else got a Fitbit or similar?

I bought one for my Mrs for Christmas but she can't use it as she is in seawater up to 6 times a week (her job) so I use it now.

I've had it on for about 2 months now. I've heard it said "you don't own a Fitbit, it owns you!"

I'm addicted to it plus I'm doing loads of weights and running and am getting a lot fitter. I aim to be in the best shape I've ever been in time for my big 50!

Anyone else into Fitbit, Jawbone or similar?

My daughter bought me a FitBit several Christmases ago...love it. Mine is the clip on type...hubby has one of the new wristband types. We try to walk a minimum of 10K steps per day.

I have a vivofit - had it just over a year now and I love it (despite the fact that Garmin apparently view their customers as guinea pigs on an ongoing basis)

I'm by nature sedentary, but I hate seeing the 'red bar of death' that you get if you sit on your arse for more than an hour so it does encourage me to get up and jig about for a bit.

Like Fitbit, it synchs with my Myfitnesspal account so I get lots and lots of charts and graphs to geek out over. Magic!

I've had two. The first stopped tracking steps after 6 whole hours, returned. The second would not sync with either computer and was returned.

Like the idea and will likely try again, just not with the Fitbit Charge model.

I have a Pebble smartwatch, which will do the same type of step/sleep tracking that fitbits do, along with the other smartwatch stuff. Cost me about $79 in a sale I think. Never really considered any of these accurate (given how they work) but it terms of rough estimates of how little exercise you are doing, they are fine.

You might be interested to know that Pebbles are rated waterproof, 5 ATM of pressure - so you can go swimming in them. People do use them in saltwater environments well enough - basically they are glued shut.

I took part in the GCC corporate walking challenge and wore (out) a pedometer or two for a few months. Good to get a handle on general exercise levels but I don't think they are very accurate.

My wife has a Olde Worlde mechanical one, that seems more accurate than the digital wannabes.

All this syncing and sleep tracking is great but I prefer the basic models ... No charging, no syncing hassles, just get up off your butt and move.

Another shout out to My Fitness Pal if anyone wants to track intake too, excellent website/app.

Had a LifeTraker on for 4 days. I can't say its changed my life yet but it does show the time which is a great bonus.

So how many steps should we be aiming for?

I'll have to check out Myfitnesspal. I've been doing all my food logging on my Fitbit website, it won't synch to my phone as my phone is too old (a bit like me) :(

Yup, Fitbit Flex since June 2013 and now heading rapidly to my life total of 5000 (that's five THOUSAND) miles! For a sedentary old chook who got puffed walking to the end of the (very short) road I have to say that's a big win! I now walk 4.5 miles for coffee rather than drive/bus. Today I am going to London and will walk from Liverpool St to the West End not just because I get anxious when I don't get the 10k buzz but because I now delight in walking. Weird that a gizmo can help motivate!

That's impressive. Do you log your sleep now too? I'm trying to get 8 hours a night, feel a lot better for it too.

It is a great motivator! I have to get up to 10K steps in every day...if not I feel like I've let myself down.

Daughter and Husband have the new FitBit wristbands...Christmas pressie from moi. We have challenges...from Monday I have so far done close to 70K steps.

I love mine....even just after having had a baby I'm keen to put it on...even if I have lowered my target steps temporarily! It really has made a difference to me and I'm keen to start the weight tracking element of it now baby is out. I tend to follow slimming worlds healthy eating plan which doesn't necessarily correlate to calorie counting..

I must do better with sleep, unfortunately my mother is noisy in the night and it's rare that I dont get disturbed.

Anyone up for a FitBit challenge? Steps per day? Without doing much I'm on 10 grand. Doing some sport today so will be interesting to see what happens.
