Tried nearly all the restaurants around there and still not found one that stands out. Dont get me wrong, the food isnt dreadful on the whole, just not what i like.

Being a big curry fan I have been most disapointed in the Indian curry houses that we have come across. There is one that is not bad in Epping across the road from the train station on the corner but the best one so far is Castle Taj in Castle hill but not sure if you have a car as it would be a bit far by taxi. They do a really nice Jalfrazi and fish curry and the naans are not the store bought kind but a bit more authentic.
The thai curries are much better here though so maybe give that a try.
I think the curry houses in Britain are very much for the British market and I bet some of them have never been heard of in India (wasn't Tikka Masala invented in Birmingham? LOL!) so I just think we have to adjust our taste to suit but not best chuffed about that LOL.

The best Thai restaurants are in the city. Around Campbell Street. The rest are just ok. Trust me. I lived in Thailand for 5 years.

Re: Anyone discovered a good Indian restaurant in Sydney?
We are off to Sydney for a week in Feb. I have done a little search on here for Indian restaurants and got a couple of names but was just wondering if there are any more recent recommendations. We'll be staying in North Ryde and it would be just so good to have a good curry while we are there (having given up on Brisbane).
Hopefully, there are a few foodies reading this.

Well, I 'cast my thoughts' about Indian cuisine in Australia because, ahem, this was a thread about, er, Indian cuisine in Australia. Weird that.
If I had indeed 'cast my thoughts' about Chinese and Italian and, puzzingly, MacDonalds, it might have been considered a little out of context. Do you agree?
As it happens, if the thread had been about Chinese, Italian or fast-food cuisine I probably wouldn't have had much to say or even be moved to respond at all because, in my experience, there is no real difference in the representation of these styles of cuisine in the UK and the representation of these styles of cuisine in Australia.
I do, however, think there is a difference between the representation of Indian food in the UK and the representation of Indian food in Australia.
Sorry if that upsets you.

You are being deliberately obtuse and purposefully missing my point. I have tried many Indian Restaurants here and they are NOT the same as the ones in the UK. This is something that a great many people comment on when they come here from the UK. If that weren't the case, then why would this thread exist?
Does one have to be a 'food critic' to judge whether they think something is good or not? What an absurd & pointless thing to say.
In your final remark about fish & chips and jellied eels, you simply repeated your original post but exchanged the food groups. Again, totally pointless.

Even Australian family members and friends who've been over to the UK agree that the Indian cuisine is, generally, of a higher standard there.
I'm assuming it is your belief that one cannot judge The Beatles better than the Stones (or vice versa) unless one is in possession of a 'long and distinguished career' as a music critic? Interesting.

Re: Anyone discovered a good Indian restaurant in Sydney?
It is a generally held view by many people who a) like Indian food and b) have lived in both UK and Australia that the UK Indian restaurants are better.
As I said, many Aussies even admit this. It's just, generally, not done the same here. Perhaps there are a very few Indian restaurants in Aus that are like the UK ones, but they would have to be in a minority or else I'm sure in 3 years of trying I'd have stumbled on one or heard someone saying how great one was.
The quality of the meat used and the taste and texture of the sauces is more reliable in the UK. The best you could call it here in Aus is 'variable' or 'unpredictable'.
Do you run an Indian restaurant or something?

On what basis do you confidently state the quality of the meet and sauces are more reliable? Please educate me
