Anyone concerned about eating fish in the future
Hi.
Have seen that on top of all the radioactive water pouring into the sea(and they think has been since march 11), the Japanes have been forced to dump over 10,000 tons of radioactive water into the sea. Its 500 times over the permitted level,of what they are allowed to dispose of. My question is this, fish swim, tides flow......Is anyone concerned about eating fish. Right now,I dont think its a prob , except for the unfortunate people directly in the vicinity, but in the future,if they have to keep dumping, and the leak keeps leaking what then? The kids eat a quite alot of fish. It makes me wonder. I also worry for the marine life itself, feel upset for the dolphins and whales and all that stuff. What a nightmare!!:( |
Re: Anyone concerned about eating fish in the future
Apparently if you ate fish all year round that are caught in the area you'd only have a quarter of an increase in the level of background radiation that you'd normally have.
So no, not bothered. However I do know that supplies of Japanese fish supplies that are usually delivered to Aus have halted so... I'd be far more concerned about the fish after the oil spill. I'm sure that's far more toxic. |

What a nightmare!!:( However, the world's oceans are vast in size and, relatively speaking, this leak is a pretty minor issue for mother nature to deal with. Think about oil, as another pollutant. For many thousands of years, oil has been seeping into the oceans, making its way up through natural crevices in the ocean floor. In recent times, vast quantities of oil have been spilled at sea, as a result of human error. Yet the ocean surface isn't one big oil slick. That's because the actions of the sea, break down the oil. |

It comes very low down on my list of things to worry about.
Somewhere deep under 'Am I getting enough calcium?'. |

It was such a dull thought I consigned it to history along with what 'Low GI' and 'The Southern Oscillation Index' means. |

I'm not really that worried about the fish . . . it's the turtles I'm more concerned about.

I won't be eating fish in the future. It tastes like fish. (insert puke smiley here)

Re: Anyone concerned about eating fish in the future
I can't afford to eat fish and even if I could I wouldn't care about the radiation. I think people's health is more in danger from heavy metal poisoning if they eat too much tuna/swordfish.
