Another one off to Darwin

After a gruelling interview yesterday, my OH has been given a lateral transfer sponsorship with the oz army. WE had hoped to get Victoria, but beggars it looks like we are off to Darwin.
I would like some info on uni's as im hoping to do a graduate entry nursing course, as it looks like we will be there for 2 years and i might as well get some usefull ozzy qualifications.

Well firstly congratulations Mandy. Second - you might find Darwin is to your liking. And thirdly, if it isn't, you'll have a foot in the door and can move on once you've on the ground. ;)

Hey Mandy, thats a Bernese Mountain Dog in our avatar isn't it? Nice dogs, but they might find it a tad warm in Darwin if you're bringing one!

As Hutch said, you'll have your foot in the door, and at least Darwin is close to asia, so you can have lots of nice holidays to Bali, Singapore, etc....

Charles Darwin University. cdu.edu.au/ehs

Large Army and Air Force bases in Darwin.
Army are doing you a favour, much better here than Victoria. You will wan't to get some sort of accomadation allowance though, otherwise property will be a major expense.
And the climate's not as bad as you might hear, you do get used to it. We had a cold morning today when it got down to about 18C, ;) now a lovely 30C.

Re: Another one off to Darwin

Thanks guys, after waiting so long trying to find different routes into oz, to finally be given a way in is amazing.
Although intially i was worried about going to be living so far from where i thought i would be. Now ive accepted that the door has been opened and i will enjoy the adventure of living some where most people would not choose to go. I know eventually we will get to Victoria, but i shall enjoy the ride for now.
Ive just got to finish my degree now and graduate, which takes me to December, then after that im hoping we will be on our way.

Ive got to crack on with my next assignment and then i can concentrate on my final end of course assignment.
So it will be back to the books for me on Monday.
Mandy:thumbsup:

We've just been posted to Darwin so will be moving up in January. Not the best time of year to be moving, but don't have a lot of choice!

Gonna be a long drive from VIC up to Darwin but am so looking forward to it! May not feel the same at the end of it though!

Keep in touch and may catch up with you when you come over!

welcome Mandy
we've been here 3 years now and loving it! I was(is?) a lateral transfer and having been around the great country of Oz on courses I can say this is the best place to start and as a nurse they will bite your hand off! Anyway if you want more info to the real side of being here as a lateral please PM me and I'll give you some info.

We are also moving to Darwin in January,

we were really dubious about moving there but after 6 months of researching and talking to 'Darwinites' we can't bloody wait. We were going to just last there a few months before moving on but it turns out there is so much to see and do we may be there considerably longer.

Now counting down the days, only 134 days to go!!

Am sure the offer will be with you pretty soon! Just gotta try and be patient which of course is very hard to do!

OH is looking forward to testing his 4WD out on the drive up through the centre. Am sure me and the kids will be feeling slightly less enthusiastic!

If you do get Darwin, will catch up for a drink or three!!
