There was a report about KFC a few weeks back, I can't quite remember the details, but it wasn't good, I'll try and dig it out, just don't go there was the result I believe.

Aus is trying to have junk food ads limited in childrens TV time, currently australian kids are subjected to more junk food ads per hour than any country in the world.

However its being heavily opposed and looks unlikely to go through.

Saw that last night. But cutting down the ads isn't really tackling the route of the problem is it? The problem is the parents being able to say 'no' to their kids, and educating people what is a healthy diet.
Then, if we're really going to go the whole hog, we make healthier foods cheaper, such as veg and put a tax on unhealthy foods.... Tax the manufacturer for using unhealthy fats, chemicals and high sugar and salt in their products.

The Political lobbies from Food Manufacturers and Farmers will put an end to that. Organic Farming has no political muscle or money, sad but true.

It's nothing to do with eating junk food obesity is all to do with Australias mandatory wearing of cycle helmets apparently

Australian obesity rates have doubled since bicycle helmet law enactment at the beginning of the 1990s and Australia is now ranked as the second fattest nation on earth. Obesity is linked to various ailments including cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer and reduced quality/duration of life.

Obesity

The USA is at No.1, no surprise there then.
The Greeks managed to slip in at No.5 and the Canadians are down at No.11, it must be all the shagging they do during those cold winters.
This site estimates that around 7 000 000 Aussies are overweight or obese. That's almost half the population.

I have never understood this obsession (especially from Tony Blair in the UK) with getting junk food ads banned. As long as the parents do the food shopping, what the hell does it matter *what* they advertise? The kids don't buy the groceries. If parents are overwhelmed by their kids' blackmail so easily, then they need to reassess their parenting skills - which have nothing to do with junk food advertising.

Just my 2c's worth.

Sue, maybe the lack of 'time' in people's lives means that they more easily give in to their children's pester power to assuage their feelings of guilt? Pester power, as it's called, is incredibly successful, as marketing companies know.
