Amazon incoming ...

Re: Amazon incoming ...
One day, when my grandkids ask me what I did in the great retail wars, I will be able to say - I did my bit and never, ever shopped at Harvey Norman

Re: Amazon incoming ...
I can order it online from HN or GG have it delivered but there's a few problems there.
Firstly the delivery fee. Cheaper just to go and get it.
Secondly the delivery times. Its fixed. Not suited to my footloose and fancy free lifestyle.
So on all counts, best to go and collected it when it suits.
Ah so much for the online delivery caper. It fails again.

Unless you are Superman with a big boot it's not always easy to collect.
Washing machines are bulky, heavy and cumbersome for instance.

Good Guys = $549 + $69 delivery & installation
Appliances Online = $576 + free delivery and installation, next day
$26 to deliver and install, over trying to personally lug it into your car, get it home, lug it into your house, install it, lug the old one into your car, and find somewhere to go with it ?
My, your option really does sound foot loose and fancy free .....

$594 + $49 delivery from HN
$716 from Applicances Online
We could play this game all day.
I would rather collect at a time that suits me and take the cheaper option at the same time.
Win win all round.

Yeah, you'd still lose. Fact is free next day delivery and installation gives better customer service, which you profess to value. I thought your position was that great customer service beat price - that's what you claimed and claimed and claimed. I said there was a margin of about 10% for customer service differences, or about $50 in the case of a washing machine ....
I believe Harvey Norman will also take your old washer away.
So once all the bartering and price matching is done (everything is negotiable) and the cost is the same at both, the difference will be service, pickup and delivery options.
And the end result of all that online is not cheaper than bricks and mortar.
Ouch. Myth exposed.

We wouldn't trust anyone to fit a household appliance, especially someone employed by HN. We have a SUV and a Ute for a reason. Anyone can fit a washing machine.

I've said, multiple times, that customer service is secondary to price.
Now here is a result where the online service is better than the bricks and mortar (probably because their lower costs makes offering free delivery possible) at a comparable cost within that margin, and you are claiming it as a win ... for you?
This is pigeon chess.

Doesn't this tell you that the delivery is not actually free, charged and bundled into the cost?

I like the idea of them taking your old one away though. Nothing worse than having a whitegood museum in the back shed.

Yeah but there's council kerbside pickup, council dump or you do what the husband does, dismantles everything and reuses or makes stuff. 'Oscar' is made out of car parts and 'Alfred' is a 15 year old compressor tank and angle iron.
