I don't think their derivatives are party to the same coverage in those way out places? Restricted bandwidths etc....not sure, but I think thats the case.

Hmm a fairly wide digression from the topic, So...... I wonder if Amazon will be offering a Sim service? (That's better lol)

Well, if Bezos follows Musk, they will be looking at a global satellite service carrying calls, data, etc. Don't forget, he's playing in the reusable launcher business too.

That would yield better service in the outback than it would in a city.

Me thinks all this talk about Amazon efficient delivery is wishful thinking, balarney and to cut it short total bullshit.

Amazon US just switched a massive amount of their parcels in Amazon utopian land to USPS..... Here's what the US citizens think of that. They are actually supposedly slightly worse than Aus Post

Here's the UK version and the Royal Mail delivers Amazon as well.

Guess who gets the best reviews of a bad Bunch.

I am now very sure drones will never ever be used to deliver parcels in Urban Centers, the public won't cop it..... The noise pollution, privacy and potential danger.

Drones fail when they try to process the multitude interactions that are needed to make it financially viable.

Key point is Amazon are not logistic experts and rely on others to process the final mile delivery.

Amazon are more smoke and mirrors where there is a distinct difference between expectation and reality.

Investors are starting to see that bigger does not conclude with complete dominance. The last mile is the nut they cant crack, and that becomes their undoing. Huge overheads with no real profitability will cause investor panic when lean overhead based competitors spread with profitability.

Project Wing’s concept is both simple and extraordinary: drone delivery is just a part of what they call a “new commerce system.”
Question is probably "which gets here first", autonomous cars or autonomous drones? Things have been converging on particular solution models, and my guess is that will progress over 2018 to result in money making services in 2019. In some parts of the world that will get delayed by politicians being behind the curve, but there's enough dissatisfaction with existing delivery solutions that laws will change. I'd guess suburban targets and industrial estates will be the initial customers - but other locations won't be far behind.

Fact is people hate them flying over or near them.

Public opinion is the hurdle that drones will face and IMO it is insurmountable.

Wait till the tidal wave of protest starts.

You also have the people who live on or close by a flight path where drones are not allowed (in theory) to fly. Not a huge amount of people granted.

Most of Sydney is a no fly drone zone. The flight paths are over the city and if that doesn't get you, the helipads all over the city will.

Auto drones have too many hurdles to be viable anytime soon.

Thus far Amazon AU is a total damp squib. Didn't see any items from them this morning.

What was all the hype about ?

I agree. A total waste of time at present

It will get better when Amazon get serious and launch their own products and start selling more directly. ATM it only seems like it's mainly Amazon Marketplace
