Market is down about 50 points or 1%

Hardly the end of the world. There have been worse numbers out of China recently

Gold price is a big factor - which has little to do with China

Today will be a bad one on the Aussie markets.

Yesterday I had my face torn off and then my arse was handed to me. Worst day ever in my investing life, lost thousands...

Ho hum, easy come, easy go.

At least they didn't tear your arse off and hand your face to you. Always look on the bright side.

...the bright side is gold and silver are cheap and it's pandemonium at the Perth Mint who are running out of certain types of silver. Everyone is buying.

I read about the panic selling of gold this morning somewhere or other. Markets are too volatile at the moment for me. I'm no Rothschild....

Don't forget, for every seller there's a buyer. Recently non western central banks like China have been hoovering up all the physical gold at cheap prices as well as the entirety of their local production, and they are the biggest gold producers in the world.

99% of the gold traded is paper gold, claims on actual gold that can never be realised.

I've heard lots of anecdotes that it's getting harder and harder to get physical and dealers are either not selling or selling at way over spot value.

What's going on at the moment in precious metals is astounding.

+100! Have the Chinese announced their latest gold holdings yet? Last time I read about this it was speculated they were going to announce how much they had and it was going to be a huge figure.

Market down today but I reckon more to do with events in Boston (taking lead from Wall Street)

Precious metals are just commodities. Prices rise and fall all the time. Nothing is certain.

But I thought that gold was a safe haven? Especially relevant in these troubled times? A sure bet? Cannot go wrong with gold!

What a load of bollocks. Gold is still way above historic levels yet according to the 'experts' it's now the end of the world
