This argument has been done to death many times before... we get the girlies on saying the sort of sentimental nonsense that you are coming out with... and then the blokes come on and present a more realistic view of what the world is actually like and pretty much always has been.

Since man started walking this earth there has been conflict, the strong displace the weak. That's the way its always been and probably always will be. It has nothing to do with flags or countries and if don't like it, then that's just tough... there isn't a damn thing you can do about it.

I agree with you... but you get the apologists who would argue that its better for them to maintain their culture exactly as it was for 40,000 years. It's nonsense and ignores the realities of life.

Really? Well you learn something new...

I think in this country we're all pretty free to live alternative lifestyles. If aboriginal people want to live like that, then it's fine. I know people who follow paleo lifestyles (and yes some hunt their own meat) so, heck, isn't it pretty much the same thing? It's about choice. It would be good if we all had true choice.

It would be ****ing disaster if we all had true choice. We live as a society, cheek by jowl, and true choice for all would be anarchy. We all live within boundaries and rules and that is the only way any society will ever function.

Can I just ask, as this is something I'm very interested in learning more about, but I'm not massively into reading as it's part of my everyday life as a teacher and I don't get much enjoyment from it. Are there any documentaries/films explaining the history? I just feel, as a teacher who has recently moved to Australia, that I really should know more about the country in which I now live? :o

The Kimberly Land Council, which is defending the brothers, is claiming that because the assault took place in an area which holds an "exclusive possession native title", the Hopigas had the right to use reasonable force to defend their land against trespassers.

The defence has successfully prevented the state prosecutor from attending the site because she is a woman and it would be offensive for her to travel into the sacred area.

I will please myself thank you. After all I am just a stupid female and you obviously know better, earn more money than me, and have a more educated, higher plane of existence type view than I can ever hope to aspire to simply because you were blessed with two Y's.

Luckily I am not trying to impress anyone. Thank you for reposting the relevant parts of the article as due to my femininity I would have had trouble clicking on the link, reading the article and working out the pertinent points. Much appreciated. Please come round at approximately 10pm to show me how to get ready for bed, brush my teeth, turn back the bed sheets and fall asleep soundly till tomorrow - because to be honest I am so dumb I need to re learn these things every single day. Nurse makes "inappropriate" comment regarding the behaviour of an aboriginal alcoholic who was aggressive/abusive/violent...... said summit about spending benefits on alcohol whilst their children run riot terrorising the local community... and the government feeding their dogs for them..... Nurse VERY angry... professional to pts face... vented in staff room... Overheard by Dr who reports "racist" incident to management.... "at this stage' does not want to make a formal complaint but wants an apology from the nurse....


Human Resources involved

Investigation follows

possible witnesses to alledged racist incident questioned "discretely" "evidence" gathered

disciplinary action threatened

Letters from managers

Resulting in formal disciplinary meeting



Said nurse attends formal meeting supported by her "Tribe Elder" an aboriginal rights activist .... who questions what is racist about the comments made and asks why an aboriginal can't express their opinion of some one from their own people freely without being persecuted by white people AGAIN

As someone yet to move to Australia, I am absolutely :ohmy: at my Australian husbands attitude when talking about Aborigines. To be honest, his attitude makes my blood boil. His defence is, you'll see what they're like when you get there.

I have made it clear that he keeps his views to himself and doesn't instil any of his views on our children. I am aware that there are problems and having read this thread, I understand a bit more. I only hope that my experiences of Aborigines when I finally arrive in Aus will mean that I take each person on their own merits and that I don't lump them all together as a problem that I don't want.

Although, I refuse to aplogise for anything I was not party to. I had nothing to do with the stolen generation (though I am :mad: it ever happened) and as such I will not accept it as an excuse to be treated badly by anyone.
