I'm working in the gynae clinic at the local women's hospital. We also do sexual health and family planning. The clinic is fondly known as "The Manky Minge Unit". Trust me, you don't want to be a gynae.

You're going to do just fine on your exams. I have a feeling you will make an excellent doctor - trust me, after over 20 years of working with them I can tell.

To the OP, 31 is nowhere nearly too old to change careers. I'm 45 and trying to get into uni so I can finally get some internationally recognised initials after my name. When we moved over to Australia I changed careers from Ophthalmic Technician to working in a recruitment agency then to being a medical secretary in a hospital. My father, at age 47 went to law school. Although he never practiced law, he did change careers from former union organiser to arbitrator for the federal government. You're never too old to learn something new.

A lad I went to school with once confessed that his Dad, Dr Stan ***** , worked at the local clap clinic. Henceforth he became known as Stan Stan the VD man

I must say the gynae oncology part of my job is the most rewarding. The women (and girls) are for the most part really inspirational. Some of them just break my heart with how upbeat they are knowing that they will most certainly die from their cancers. Oncology/palliative medicine is where I would love to specialise. End of life is so rewarding.

Money as an apprentice is crap- we are keenly awaiting the day he is a fully registered plumber.

However if you are lucky enough to be employed by a company which works on union sites, wages for apprentices are much higher....of course these jobs are fought over!

Research chemist, cleaner, accounts assistant, more Uni, surveyor.....all before the age of 30 (just)..... far more interesting than staying doing the same things all the time.

Hi Jimmey, Where abouts are they? We are heading to Brisbane. Hubby might try the same thing but was told by a friend of a friend who started a gardening business in Melbourne, she got bit 250 times & ended up in hospital! Told him that is just a minor problem to overcome
Do you know if they charge similar prices to what they would have charged in the uk? Have heard on another thread its quite cheap to get gardening type jobs done in Oz?

Thanks Karen

My OH is 42 and will be going to Tafe to study civil engineering when we get to Australia.
My Dad changed his career aged 54.
It's never too late for a career change
