It is really worrying when things like this happen.....I was thinking about my two boys, when I heard this last night. My eldest is 11 and is just starting to go out and about with his mates....when I was thinking about it I just thought, even if adults were about, things like this would still happen....he is never far away from home or his mates house, but all it takes is a split second. This poor lad was playing footie, with his mates, like my two do and this happens to him....and what will happen to the culprits?!* They will get slapped and locked up for a while, with playstations, x-box, colour tv, all the latest equipment, sports equipment and live the life of reily, all being paid for by people who do respect others and their kids etc.......sorry going on a rant, feeling a bit urgh today....thought I needed chocolate, but that's not helped either.....
anyway back on the subject and my heart goes out to the family and friends of the poor lad....... Ems x

Just posted on the other thread.

Absolutely shocking, what on earth is happening in this world, 11 years old, snuffed out just like that.

The poor family must be totally distraught.

RIP Rhys

So shocked when I heard about this. Such a shame and a waste of a young life. Cant begin to imagine what his family are going through.

It's been on all the news over here. Terrible thing. One question though, why do people always says "what's happening these days?" This sort of thing has been happening since time immemorial, nothing new sadly, maybe publicised more widely but certainly not new. I did hear on the radio just now that a 14 year old and an 18 year old had been picked up, don't know if they did it or not though.

Exactly - these type of crimes are rare but they have always happened and, unfortunately, always will. It's very upsetting though.

Unfortunately things are happening like this all the time I dont remember it ever being as bad as it is now it certainly wasn't happening 10 - 20 years ago with the same regularity, despite the arguement about increased publicity i'm not buying into that one. I worked in youth and adult crime back in the 80's and the use of weapons like it is now was not as prevalent as it is now. Fighting with fists, sticks, bricks, yes but this is a new phenomenum (sp)

I am not sure how much news about these events you are getting regarding gun and knife crime but it is out of control now. You turn the news on now and its daily. Kids even wearing stab proof jumpers

Maybe not guns but there is a knife killing on a weekly basis now.

Back in the 70's I knew of a girl who was kidnapped and murdered and yes things went on like that and still do but violent crime with weapons never before like this i'm sorry to say.

My heart goes out to the parents of this boy seeing them on the news was heartbreaking.
