Default Visa Requirements

Does anyone have any experience of an African (Zambian citizen) staying in Barbados beyond the initial 6 months which is usually given as a member of a Commonwealth country?

I would suspect that you would need to apply to the immigration department for an extension of your stay.. I would highly recommend that you contact the Immigration Department at the e-mail below (or try to phone might be better) to find out what their requirements would be to stay more than 6th months.

The Immigration Department in Bridgetown is responsible for matters relating to the issuing (of all types) of visas for entry to Barbados by non nationals. The Department issues work permits, student visas, business visas and visitor visas. Visitor visas are also issued by Barbados' missions and consulates abroad.
The contact information for the Immigration Department in Barbados is:-

Address: Careenage House,
Wharf Road
Bridgetown
BARBADOS
Telephone: (246) 4344100
Fax: (246) 4260819
E-mail: [email protected]

Hi Ant you mention the usual 6 months given to commonwealth citizens..This is a bit of a myth...if the person is not yet in Barbados they will get what they are given on arrival at airport(can be anything from a week to 3 months dependant on the officer who interviews - 6 months is rare in the feed back we get here now) unless they have a pre approved permit...post what your given at airport you reapply for an extension based on whatever kind of grounds you are asking to stay upto the 6 months via the immigration department downtown..if they have already been on island for 6 months then any extension to that is on a case by case basis and is irrelevant of the citizenship of the individual (unless they are a member of the Caricom)

I own property in Barbados, a member of the Commonwealth being British, told over a year ago to leave the Island in order to obtain a Special Entry Visa. I cannot return until this has been granted. So you take pot luck with Immigration.
