Setting Up Company
 

Hello, my wife and I are moving our company to Barbados and need to set up a new company and apply for work permits. As we are bringing outside business with us the Immigration Dept has said we will most likely be granted the work permits. The question is has anyone set up a company and applied for work permits themselves without using local lawyers? All of the quotes we have had have been extortionate. Is there anyone here who can advise? Most companies want to host our company for a year (local address and director etc) which I'm not sure we even need? Any help would be most appreciated.

I have set up a company in Barbados although it was a long time ago. The setting up of the company was not the main work of the lawyers it was the getting the work permits as a company director.

I did this a year ago, We had to hold off actually moving because my wife fell pregnant, but we are now on track to be there start of September.

I used a lawyer in Barbados, they have been great. Yes it was quite pricey but I felt it would go a lot smoother if I had someone who understood the system doing it. I tried to do it all myself but gave up!

What I did was set up an IBC then apply for a work permit through it, Your situation may slightly different with regards to the company set up but the work permit situation is the same. It took quite a while and a lot of back and forth.

I think that an IBC is no longer a valid option - I do however stand to be corrected. Which does go to prove you do need a someone with proper current knowledge.
