Secondary schools

Hi all

I haven't been on here in a while I'm still waiting for my citizenship to come through (apparently I should've had it already so I'm doing lots of chasing) Originally when I posted I was looking for primary school advice but now as it's been so long I'm now looking for secondary school advice :)

Taking private schools out of the equation does anyone know how in year transfers work? The time I'm looking to come over my daughter would be in year 8 and son in year 7. I know in Barbados the kids do an 11+ of sorts to determine schools, but obviously that's not compulsory here in the UK. But they do SATs so would Sat results suffice? Or would I need to arrange for the kids to sit the 11+ before we come over?

HI. tell me the ages.. . rather than school year.. schools here start when the student is 4 years old.. turning 5 that year. so.. 4/5 5/6 6/7 (these are considered primary/reception years) .. Class 1-4 primary are 7/8 8/9 9/10 10/11.. Class for is what sits the 11plus. 1st form starts at age 11 turning 12..

if you are putting your child into government/public school.. will they have citizenship as well??? if not.. there will be a non-national fee... .but I'd suggest you talk with someone in the Ministry of Education. https://mes.gov.bb/Contact/Staff-Directory/

DON"T send an e-mail. I have never had that e-mail work .. ever.. Contact either someone in the Chief Education officers office.. or the Secondary schools office.. and ask the question directly to them.

long ago, when my husbands cousin moved back to Barbados from England with her son, he had to do an 11plus type test for the ministry before they would place him in the school. (he's in his 30's now.. soo..) and to say. the 11plus is really only done for Maths and English.. and there is an essay they write as well.. so not a broad reaching curriculum for that. Their transcripts and information from their schools in england would also be needed.. (and I'd think would hold more weight.. but . then you never know)..

If you need me to call.. I have no issue ... just let me know.. (I've been through both private and government secondary school.with my 3.. . last one is in Upper 6th form this year in Government school) . but need as much info as possible.. general mostly. and know when you might be moving.
