secondary schools
I have read through several threads both past and present regarding schools. However, I was unable to find a private secondary school for boys aged 14, I am intending to move to Barbados next year. If anyone knows of one details would be appreciated.
Thank you:confused: |
Re: secondary schools
initially, I would have said there isn't one..However, St. Winifred's has just started accepting boys into their secondary school. Codrington will have a 4th form eventually (if they don't already), but the expense will be great. Dottins Academy is also for boys, but I'm not 100pct certain I'd recommend it. (and personally I thought they had closed earlier this year, but seem to still be open for students).
It is and has been for a number of years (after the closing of Mapps College) and unfortunate part of bajan and expat life for boys after 11plus. The must do well enough to go to one of the "better" secondary schools or end up at a not so desirable school. |

Re: secondary schools
You would really need to check with the Ministry of Education, but they may require transcript from his previous school, and possibly require some type of test to be taken, just for placement purposes.
if he will be 14years or turning 14years in the sept-sept time period that you would move here, he would be going into 4th Form. he would then do 4th and 5th form and sit his CXC (Caribbean Examination Council) exams to go on to 6th form.. kind of like O levels to A levels. That's about as much as I can tell you. I'm still not 100 sure about this secondary school thing as my oldest is 12 and going into her 2nd year at secondary.. so I'm learning right along with her as to what it's all about. I have 3 neices who are all older - 1 is in 4th form this year, 1 is in lower 6th form (first year of 6th form) and the other is in her 2nd year of 6th form and will do her CAPE (like A level) exams next May.. |

Sunniebgi, thank you for your advise.

Re: secondary schools
I would say look into Codrington, if you are Barbadian then you get better rates and if you are used to paying private fees in UK then the fees here are not that bad at all.
