School Fees

Hi all, thinking of moving to Barbados and although I have dual nationality my daughter only has a British passport. Is anyone aware of whether I would be charged local or non national rates?

thanks!

Re: School Fees

Hi Janjan. welcome to the forum..

schools usually have 3 levels of fees.. Nationals, Caricom and Non-national. Public/govt schools are free to nationals, but there is a fee (not as much as private schools) for Caricom and Non-nationals. and private schools are going to be exponentially more expensive for all 3 levels.. and I think it's best to get the answer from either the school or the Ministry of Educations, depending on where she would go to school. what you may find, depending on the situation, the govt may say.. not a citizen, so there would be fees to pay.. The private school would have to register the student as a non-national, but I guess they could be lenient on the charges. (sorry.. that sounds round about and why I would recommend asking the schools directly)

a bit more pointed question is this. are you Barbadian by birth?? or the students other parent?? and thus your daughter would be able to obtain citizen by decent, but may need to have that first before the school charges the local fees.

I'm sure I haven't helped. all 3 of mine went to private primary and paid local fees as all born here. i have a friend who had 1 child born in Barbados, 1 in the UK and 1 in Grenada.. they paid 3 different fees, I believe, until the other 2 go Barbados residency or citizenship..
