Rememberance Day
 

Hello All,

I'm moving back over to Barbados in the first week of November and was wondering if Rememberance Day was observed on the island. If it is I was wondering where the poppy laying would be as I have never missed a ceremony and would hate to do so now.

After a bit of a search I found that in Barbados, Remembrance Day is not a public holiday. It is recognized as November 11, yet the parade and ceremonial events are carried out on Remembrance Sunday.

The day is celebrated to recognize the Barbadian soldiers who died fighting in the first and second world wars between 1914 to 1918 and 1939 to 1945. The parade is held at National Heroes' Square where a interdenominational service is held.

The Governor-General and Barbadian Prime Minister are among those who attend, along with other government dignitaries; and the heads of the police and military forces. During the main ceremony a gun salute, wreaths, and prayers are also performed at the war memorial Cenotaph at the heart of Heroes' Square in Bridgetown.

Will this be held on Sunday the 6th or 13th this year?

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say the 13th November as it was held on the 14th November last year. Poppies are selling all like now. May I suggest that you contact The Main Guard at The Garrison Savannah and see if they can advise you of this. http://www.visitbarbados.org/Listing...=1986&catid=17

I will call the Garrison and ask as I arrive on Island. Just wanted to know as I haven't missed paying my respects since, well i don't think I have ever not been on a parade or at least observed the moment of relection.
