try this one for the registry of a name..

Then it depends on what type of business you want to start as to where you actually register the business. slightly confusing, but start here and see where they take you.

hi zanne

I have registered a business in barbados and did most of it through my lawyers - it appears any one can actually register a business but it doesnt automatically mean you can work for it - as CEO of the company I still had to go thru the complicated process of applying for a work permit for myself which even the lawyers didnt really know how to go about but after a number of months I was granted the permit.

Let me know if you need further info

Okay thanks... I am a citizen so it shouldn't be a problem. What is the structure of your business?

If I remember correctly Zanne, and correct me if I am wrong, but its real estate / rentals you do isn't it?

I need to know if there is a need for wooden floor layers on the island and do you think it would be better for me to work for myself or try to get a job working for local builders.

I currently work for myself and find that its more beneficial for me and my wife but need to find out whats the best step on Barbados.

I know there is always a lot of new builds, a lot of LARGE new builds and for us to feel the benefit of living on the island, I would prefer to work PAYE and live the island life as well instead of slogging my guts out for someone else for a pittance.

Any information is grateful.

Tulip...I am an architect by training however I am starting a small design business on the side here (which is totally unassociated with/unrelated to Architecture, other than the fact that my Type'A' precision won't go away!) It seems here that you really have to meet people (regardless of your business niche) to get your foot in the door, especially in construction. I too understand the inclination to work on your own!
