Default Moving to Barbados for short term

Hi there,
I am currently looking into doing an exchange with my school in PEI, Canada with the University of the West Isles which makes it easier for me to come here but my boyfriend is wanting to come with me. We are both students but he will graduate this year from his program and so was hoping to work when we arrived. We will only be staying from January to probably May/June. Is this possible? And will it be hard to find a place to rent/stay for the two of us for these few months? I understand it is an expensive place to live much like many of the smaller islands. Please advise me if this is a false hope to accomplish!
Thank you.
Brittany

If you are coming to study, you would come under a student visa which I don't think (can't confirm) allows you to work. Your boyfriend can come as a visitor, but without a work permit would not be able to work and he may only get a short term (28day) stay. What happens after that, I'm not sure.

Thank you! I am not worried about working while there just school but I know he is looking to. Do you know if you can extend the stay for more than 28 days or thats it?

He can apply for a visitor's extension at Immigration. He'd need to pay a fee, fill out an application form, take in 2 passport photos as well as the passport, and get interviewed.

Immigration has been moving very slowly for a while now, for various reasons. It's possible that he might not find out whether his extension is granted before the initial visitor's stamp expires in his passport.

It's also possible that he could get longer than 28 days right at the airport, upon arrival. Many times when I was a visitor, I got more than 28 days with no problems. You MUST have a return flight ticket, regardless.

Your BF won't be able to work without a permit, as has been indicated, and unless he's got a highly specialized skill, it's unlikely that he'd get one. It's most likely that he should plan to come as a tourist and save money until then to live off while he's here. Some people do work under the table, but I don't condone that as it takes jobs away from Bajans.

Good luck to you.
